Wizards Unite First Official Teaser Trailer: Trailer Analysis and Breakdown

Wizards and witches around the world, this is a huge day for the Harry Potter community! The first official teaser trailer for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was shared online, following the series of updates on the official social media pages. In addition, the official Wizards Unite website was updated with a fresh design and messaging.

In this article, we are analyzing the new Wizards Unite trailer and comparing its contents with the text shared on the website, hoping to find something new. Let’s begin by sharing the trailer first:

The trailer lasts 31 seconds, and there’s quite a lot going on. The gist of it is that you’re a member of the Statue of Secrecy Task Force (SOS), and you’re hunting runaway magical artifacts and creatures.

The trailer showcases a young woman apparating in a back alley, catching a runaway golden snitch, and posting a poster on a wall before apparating away. Apparition is the magical process of teleportation, in which one moves ones body from one place to another by using magic.

The poster says the following: The Wizarding World is at risk of exposure. We need your help.

If you’d prefer to watch a summary of all the updated information, along with a little speculation, editor Brita of Witches Unite has a new video up.

Wizards Unite theme and setting

Following up on the official website, it seems that the game has quite an unusual setting: the Wizarding World is in danger, and the ministry has requested our assistance. The website states the following:

“Please resist the urge to panic. Traces of magic are appearing across the Muggle world without warning and in a rather chaotic manner. We worry it is only a matter of time before even the most incurious Muggles catch wind of it. We call on all witches and wizards to help contain the Calamity or risk the worst of times since You Know Who. Brush up on your spells, get your wand ready, and enlist immediately.

The Ministry is looking for witches and wizards willing to roll up their sleeves and volunteer to save the wizarding world from the Calamity. As a member of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force (a new task force formed in partnership between the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards) you will hone lightning fast wand reflexes, an ability to sniff out the faintest whiff of magical disorder from afar, and proficiency in advanced casting of multiple spells.”

These statements clarify a lot of speculations and make it easier to understand where the game is headed:

  • The Ministry of Magic (EU) is partnering with International Confederation of Wizards (roughly USA) in an effort to hide the Wizarding World from exposure
  • You will be a member of a new task force named Statue of Secrecy Task Force (SOS)

No houses, no schools – a good old cross continental partnership!

Wizards Unite logo

With the launch of the new website, the new logo has been uploaded as an SVG file. After some black magic hackery, 30 minutes of digging through the code base and figuring out how to convert a variable-using-SVG into plain ol’ PNG file, here’s the result:
