Temporary Changes in Wizards Unite

Spell Energy Wizards Unite

Hello witches and wizards! At this point, you’ve probably already seen the Spell Energy on the Map or the official announcement from Harry Potter: Wizards Unite regarding temporary changes in the game.

Brief reminder that I am just one person who does NOT work for Niantic or Warner Bros., so I was sound asleep at 1:30am my time when the changes went live in the game. The rest of the NDA team and I spent all of Friday talking to Fazes about our ideas to make Wizards Unite more playable from home. Even though she told us what to expect fairly early on Friday, the approval to share didn’t come until 1:30am ET, hence this late article. We are still sharing ideas with Fazes, so if you have any suggestions, leave a comment!

Playing Wizards Unite from Home

This is what Fazes shared regarding changes to Wizards Unite:

The following updates are now live in Wizards Unite, until further notice:

  • Tonic for Trace Detection will reveal Traces more frequently; 30 Traces per Tonic
  • Tonic for Trace Detection will have Master Notes effectiveness increased from 15% to 50%
  • Ingredients will appear on the Map more frequently, especially those needed for Tonic for Trace Detection
  • Traces will appear on the Map more frequently
  • Spell Energy will appear on the Map
  • A free store bundle will be available in the Diagon Alley shop featuring 4 Tonics for Trace Detection
  • The amount of Gifts that can be opened each day will be increased from 10 to 20

Brewing Tonic for Trace Detection will take 3.5 hours with Master Notes.

In the last hour, Spell Energy has appeared on my Map about 5 times already, along with a great deal of Angel’s Trumpet, Bulbadox Juice, and Baneberry. I haven’t seen any Erumpent Horn yet today, but I already have a large stockpile of it.

Other changes might come as well. I will keep updating this article with more information. For now, check out my previous articles regarding Wizards Unite and COVID-19.

It would be really nice if we could pick fortresses on the map to access it instead of walking.

Yes! I imagine that increasing the radius in the code would me easier than creating a “flu network” where you could go to inns and fortresses without leaving home.
I imagine that allowing us to interact with locations on a 500 meters radius, for example, would help most of the players to reach inns and fortresses to be some to complete at least the daily tasks…

I don’t know if it’s because of the changes or for some other reason (and sorry if it’s for another reason and I need to put this somewhere else). I went through at least 12 Wizarding Challenges (that’s how many runestone gifts I got, so I don’t know how many I did that didn’t give me a gift) trying to complete the last Special Assignment of defeating 10 foes. Do the math, even if I did levels that only needed 2 foes to win, I should have defeated at least 24, right? I’m stuck at 9!!! I noticed that after… Read more »

Just a suggestion but I really think we need more than access to two cauldrons…maybe we could get one more in the game and one to rent when needed I’m running out of potions as fast as I can make them daily with just two and I have rented the other every day for about three weeks now and still runnng out

Being able to join fortresses remotely so we can maintain social distancing while still battling with friends.

Being able to submit new locations as points of interest directly would also be helpful for overall game play.

A while back I read a suggestion about making the Knight Bus a part of the game. This might be a good time to do it, to give people a way to get to a place where they can eat twice and do a challenge or two to finish their daily and event missions. It would be best if you could choose a location on the map to be taken to for thirty minutes but if that is too difficult to do, just make it someplace generic like Hogsmeade Village (with taverns and a place to do a challenge). The… Read more »

Please switch off landmarks! That would give players much more variety. I live in an area designated for magical games and sports and the flood of trolls with magical megaphones and pixies with gobstones starts to really, really grate when you cannot really go outside. Some interesting “higher” foes would be nice, too…

Decreased walking for Portkeys would be great! Thanks.

For a minute there the walk distances were drastically lowered when this first was announced. This needs to happen again while the other changes are in place.

I have been enjoying the changes. If the goal is to decrease people from going out, then why increase the gifts you can open? Generally, you have to go out, to collect gifts to give. Someone has to go out to to collect gifts to give. You don’t want send gifts and not receive any. To complete the day Or get any gold, you have to do battles. I need to do battles to get red books. That is the only thing I need for my lessons. BTW. That you for a great site and time you put in to… Read more »

Hello,
right now to fight in the tower I have to be with her = go out. From the apartment I see about 4 towers.
1) Is it possible to allow turrets to fight at a distance?
2) It’s nice to open 20 gifts. Where do people take them when they are home ???
3) In pogo I lvl 40, I make suggestions for tracks. I do not know what will appear in the HP WU (tower, pub, greenhouse). Can it be specified?

for 20 (40,60,80, ..) returned foundables possibility to get gift = choice of basic.
for every 60 (120,180, …) better gifts.
for every 130 (260, 390, ..) the best.
numbers can be adjusted. This would give players access to gifts. They don’t have to leave home. The player could choose the kind of gifts: run, energy, ingredients. After catching the given number a window opens where the player chooses a gift.

This is good way to adapt to the recent times but also now that a lot of people are in quarantine bec of COVID, it would be nice to tweak the daily tasks to remove some of the fortress & inn tasks (unless they can get a roving fortress and inn :D). In place of it, maybe add more in other areas like pick up multiple ingredients, brew multiple potions or find 20 foundables 🙂

A great temporary fix would be to allow players to access any inn, fortress or greenhouse that appears on your map. When you typically click on most of these that appear on the map, you’re met with a “you must walk closer…” message. Basically, do away with the current radius, so that if it appears on your map, you can access it.

There’s a lot of great suggestions here! The only one I’d like to add is that gifts should be automatic for every inn and greenhouse visit. I’d like to be able to get as many as I can when I’m able to get out.

I find it really rewarding to receive gifts, especially as they are so hard to collect when social isolating. Perhaps we could have gifts awarded randomly, for defeating confundables?
