Hogwarts for the Holidays Brilliant Event (Part One)

Who else dreams of spending the Christmas holidays at Hogwarts? Magical Christmas trees, scrumptious feasts, hand-knit Weasley sweaters… I feel all warm and cozy inside just thinking about it!

The next Brilliant Event in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be another two-week event with the theme Hogwarts for the Holidays.

Note: Thank you Niantic and WB Games for providing this information early so Wizards Unite Hub could create this event guide.

I will be honest… The Brilliant artwork and the Brilliant Foundables don’t feel particularly festive, at least not for the first week of Hogwarts for the Holidays.

Hogwarts for the Holidays Brilliant Event Week 1 Guide

Just like other recent events, this Brilliant Event has been adapted so you can play at home. Please continue to stay safe and follow all local laws and guidelines.

Keep reading for the Brilliant Event details. You can also watch my video guide!

Brilliant Event Overview

While much of this Brilliant Event will feel familiar, the HPWU devs have a few holiday surprises for players!

First of all, NO PORTKEY TASKS! If you complete the Bonus Assignment, you will earn all of the required Portkey Foundable fragments.

That said, if you do have time to walk Portkeys, there will be TWO different Brilliant Event Portkeys, each going to a new location. The Silver Portkey will take you to the Slytherin Common Room. The Purple Portkey will take you to the Hufflepuff Common Room.

Finally, some rewards include Gifts to give your friends!

Brilliant Event Tasks

Most of these tasks have appeared before, but they aren’t too tedious. To prepare for the second set of tasks, do not visit the Brilliant Registry Page until you reach that step! Also, stop returning Brilliant Foundables once you reach 19 of either. Once you reach 20, you’re automatically taken to the Brilliant Registry Page, which you do not want.

To prepare for the Bonus Assignment, do not PLACE any Images on the new Brilliant Registry page until you reach that step.

Hogwarts for the Holidays Quest 1/4

Once again, we have the fairly standard Brilliant Event tasks. Brew your Tonics for Trace Detection in advance to collect them quickly.

Not everyone uses Invigoration Draughts, but you’ll want to hold on to these for a future task.

Collect Ingredients or Portmanteaus 2 Times 2 Basic Ingredient Gifts
Brew 2 Tonics for Trace Detection 2 Powdered Dragon Claw
Return 12 Brilliant Helga Hufflepuff Portrait Foundables 2 Invigoration Draughts

1st Quest Rewards

  • 550 Wizarding XP
  • 2 Restricted Section Books
  • 50 Brilliant Family XP
  • 10 Spell Energy

Hogwarts for the Holidays Quest 2/4

You can easily earn 7000 Wizarding XP from Traces by drinking 2 Baruffio’s Brain Elixirs.

To collect Brilliant Hogwarts for the Holidays Runestones, visit the Brilliant Registry Page. Each time you level up, you collect a Runestone. To collect 5 of these quickly, do NOT visit the Brilliant Registry Page until you reach this step.

Earn 7000 Wizarding XP from Traces 1 Silver Key
Collect 5 Brilliant Hogwarts for the Holidays Runestones 1 Snowdrop
Use 2 Baruffio’s Brain Elixirs 1 Dark Detector

2nd Quest Rewards

  • 750 Wizarding XP
  • 75 Brilliant Family XP
  • 3 Restricted Section Books
  • 10 Spell Energy
  • 1 Baruffio’s Ingredient Gift

Hogwarts for the Holidays Quest 3/4

To brew Potions quickly, brew 4 of them in advance in your regular Cauldron. Don’t collect them until you reach this step. If you want to spend Gold, you can also brew 3 Potions in the Gold Cauldron.

Use your 2 Invigoration Draughts for this step. Then use a combination of Healing Potions, Wit-Sharpening Potions, or other Invigoration Draughts to finish out the task.

Return 15 Brilliant Salazar Slytherin Portrait Foundables 3 Bitterroot
Brew 7 Potions (any) 4 Snowdrop
Use 5 Potions in Wizarding Challenges 3 Leaping Toadstool

Hogwarts for the Holidays Quest 4/4

These tasks all work together quite nicely! Pop on a Brain Elixir, call up the Knight Bus, and grind Wizarding Challenges in the Tower or Forest Chambers.

If you need help finding people, XpectoGO usually does a Wednesday livestream for Fortresses, and Animagus usually does a Friday livestream for Fortresses.

Complete 5 Wizarding Challenges with 3 or More Teammates 1 Spell Book
Defeat 25 Foes in Wizarding Challenges 1 Spell Book
Earn 4750 Wizarding XP from Challenges 2 Spell Books

4th Quest Rewards

  • 30 Spell Energy
  • 1 Extravagant Spell Energy Gift

Hogwarts for the Holidays BONUS Assignment!

To place Images quickly on the Brilliant Moving Staircases I Registry Page, WAIT until you get to this step to place anything. You will probably already have Brilliant Salazar Slytherin Portrait and Brilliant Helga Hufflepuff Portrait ready to go. From there, just do many Wizarding Challenges to keep placing the Brilliant Argus Filch.

For using Exstimulo Potions in Wizarding Challenges, the regular ones are fine. You have to start the Potion in the Wizarding Challenge for it to count. The Potion can’t carry over from using it on a Trace.

HOWEVER, you can start the Potion in a Wizarding Challenge, and then allow it to carry over when you return to the Map. Then you can use it to return Foundables. If you’re a Professor, you can use Deterioration Hex on your Foes and let them knock themselves out. This goes fairly quickly in Ruins I. If you’re not a Professor, you can just back out of the Wizarding Challenge after starting the Exstimulo Potion. You lose a Brilliant Runestone, but you might prefer that to wasting an Exstimulo Potion.

The other option is to use Exstimulo Potions in the Forest Chambers when you’re battling a Foe you’re neutral or deficient against.

To grind XP, be strategic with Tonic for Trace Detection, Baruffio’s Brain Elixir, Dark Detectors, Gifts, and your Trace Charm. I have an entire video breaking down how to grind XP quickly.

Casting 25 Great Spells is a new task. I know this can be a challenge for anyone with dexterity issues. My best advice is to use Tonic for Trace Detection and/or visit an area with a great deal of available Traces. Then prioritize any Traces with an easy spell, like Aguamenti.

If you’re worried about this task, do your best to hustle through the regular tasks. That gives you plenty of time to finish the Bonus Assignment by returning lots and lots of Foundables. You’re sure to cast 25 Great (or better) Spells if you just grind grind grind!

Place 5 Images on Brilliant Moving Staircases I Registry Page 1 Spell Book
Earn 12500 Wizarding XP 1 Spell Book
Use Any 10 Exstimulo Potions in Wizarding Challenges 2 Wit-sharpening Potions
Defeat Highest Chamber Unlocked 1 Time 1 Silver Key
Cast 25 Great (or better) Spells 10 Spell Energy

Bonus Assignment Rewards

  • 2000 Wizarding XP
  • 100 Brilliant Family XP
  • 5 Defense Against the Dark Arts Books
  • 1 Brilliant Event Title
  • 20 Spell Energy
  • 1 Exstimulo Ingredient Gift
  • 3 Brilliant Bloody Baron Registry Images
  • 3 Brilliant Fat Friar Registry Images

Brilliant Foundables and Where to Find Them

Just like previous Brilliant Events, you will only be able to encounter some of these Brilliant Foundables in the wild. The others are available as rewards for doing Wizarding Challenges with Brilliant Runestones and unlocking Brilliant Portkeys.

If you complete the entire Bonus Assignment, you do NOT need to unlock any Brilliant Portkeys.

Tips to Complete the Brilliant Event

If this is your first Brilliant Event, these tips will help you complete the Brilliant Event before the time runs out. With careful planning, you can complete the Bonus Assignment as well!

  • As a reminder, Part 1 Portkeys will give you Part 1 Rewards anytime you open them, even if you wait to open them during Part 2. Brilliant Portkeys will glow purple OR silver on the Map. Be sure to collect 3 purple Portkeys AND 3 silver Portkeys during the Brilliant Event, even if you don’t open them all during the event.
  • If you are nervous about finding time to walk the Brilliant Portkeys, you can also earn the necessary Foundable fragments by completing the Bonus Assignment.
  • To find the Brilliant Argus Filch, you must do Wizarding Challenges with the specific Brilliant Event Runestones. To minimize your usage of Spell Energy, stick with the Ruins Chambers. It might take a few extra Wizarding Challenges to get the 3 Foundables you need, but you’ll be able to do so quickly, without expending too many resources.
  • If you decide to visit Inns, Fortresses, or Greenhouses during this event, continue to practice social distancing. Check out our previous article on staying safe while playing Wizards Unite.
  • Save your Scrolls and your Restricted Section Books until the end of the event. Then use our guide to spend them wisely! That said, most Aurors and Magizoologists have already earned all the necessary Restricted Section Books, and many Professors have also done so. At this point, you can hold on to your resources in case they’re needed for the next lesson plan, you can start working on a second profession, or you can invest in SOS Training. That is a personal decision, so good luck!

Brilliant Event Bundles

There are 4 bundles total that will be available during this event. Be sure to snag the Free Bundle as soon as the event starts! The Bonus Bundle will not be available until the Bonus Assignment is unlocked, so keep that in mind.

I will break down these bundles before the event starts.

Just want to clarify the advice to stop at 19 Brilliant Foundables. This would only matter for the “Collect 5 Brilliant Hogwarts for the Holidays Runestones” task in Quest 2, correct? After that task is completed, if you are automatically taken to the Brilliant Registry Page, you can just close the page without placing images. Do I have that right? Thanks!

The third task of Part 1/4 is Return 12 Helga portraits, not 10. Please fix that.

I generally place the brilliant foundables. They happen so often that I can usually get enough to place again. The brilliant items generally give 1k xp when placing again and really adds up. I can see waiting to place anything else. I move around enough to get the port keys done before the end of the bonus and this gives me a chance to get the items if I don’t get the bonus done.
