Harry Potter Magic Awakened: Everything You Need to Know

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened is a new Harry Potter Card game developed by Warner Brothers and NetEase. The game is coming to Android and iOS and is currently available for pre-registration in China, where it will initially launch. The game was officially announced on October 30, 2019.

Developed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetEase, Harry Potter: Magic Awakening is a card game that combines RPG elements with the usual card game bonanza. The game will be launched in China under the Portkey Games brand. No release date has been shared so far. We don’t know if the game will be made available to western audiences, but we’re fairly certain it will.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened takes place a few years after the Second Wizarding War. You, the player, receive a letter of acceptance from the Hogwarts School of Magic as a freshman and kicking off your extraordinary wizarding journey.

The official website is written in Chinese, but a simple auto-translation yields several interesting details.

“As the player grows, players can learn new spells, get to know more outstanding companions, and use their magic knowledge to design unique strategies and spell combinations,” the site reads, later mentioning “the way and timing of the spell release,” which could suggest a quick-time mini-game of sorts.

Additional promotional materials were shared by Daniel Ahmad, a senior analyst at Niko Partners that covers the digital games market in China and Southeast Asia:

Judging by the materials shared by Ahmad, the game takes place in and outside Hogwarts, possibly in a wider Wizarding World area. The promotional materials showcase a Niffler, a Dragon, a few Trolls, Hagrid and Flitwick. One of the images depicts the main in-game menu, with several highlighted locations: Dueling Club, Class, Ball and Forbidden Forest.
