This Harry Potter: Wizards Unite guide is focused on the upcoming Brilliant Event: Lost Love Part One. There is a new mechanic in regards to the Potion Ingredients we will see and interact with on the game Map AND when you place Registry images on your page, so read on or check out my YouTube channel for more information on how it will work!

New Brilliant Event Mechanic
This Brilliant Event is experimenting with a new feature that rewards players for placing the Registry images by boosting the effectiveness of Potions even further than before. Here’s how to do it:
- When placing the Minerva McGonagall images, the number of Traces revealed by the Tonic for Trace Detection increases from 10 to 15.
- When placing the Order of Merlin image, Baruffio’s Brain Elixir increases in effectiveness from 2x XP to 2.5x XP gained.
- When placing the Photograph of Dougal McGregor image, the amount of spell casts affected by Strong Exstimulo Potions increases from 4 spell casts to 6 spell casts.
Brilliant Event Tasks
As per usual, these tasks all come straight from the development team. They should be accurate unless the HP:WU developers make last-minute changes (again). If anything changes, I will update this article as soon as possible!
This Brilliant Event is 4 steps long, as is tradition. You have to complete each section before progressing to the next one. Once you finish the regular quest steps, you can move onto the Bonus Assignment. It should also be noted that the Bonus Bundle will not unlock in the Diagon Alley store until you reach the Bonus Assignment step of the Brilliant Event.
Brilliant Portkeys from this week of the Lost Love Brilliant Event will feature a BRAND NEW location: Madam Puddifoot’s Tea Shop.
Prepare to be agile or else fall prey to an arrow from a little baby Cupid while sipping your Earl Grey. Until then, we’ve got tasks to do.

Tips to Complete the Brilliant Event
If this is your first Brilliant Event, or if you’re thrown off by the different tasks, these tips will help you complete the Brilliant Event before the time runs out. With careful planning (and a little bit of walking!), you can complete the Bonus Assignment as well!
- As a reminder, Part 1 Portkeys will give you Part 1 Rewards anytime you open them, even if you wait to open them during Part 2. Brilliant Portkeys will glow purple on the Map. This should be alleviated by the additional slots for Portkeys and Adventure Sync, but we’re interested to hear feedback if you experience anything to the contrary!
- To complete the “Use X Potion 2 Times” step quickly, make sure to brew Baruffio’s Brain Elixir or Tonic for Trace Detection before the event begins if your supplies are running low. This will save you valuable time when it comes to brewing them later since they take 12 hours and 7 hours, respectively.
- If you’ve having trouble finding Brilliant Traces, avoid flagged areas. They are less likely to spawn in those areas.
- To collect the Brilliant Photograph of Dougal McGregor, you need to do Wizarding Challenges (Fortress battles) with a Brilliant Runestone. Try Fortress Chambers Ruins I to Tower II to collect these Fragments.
- If you need to complete the event quickly, or you only have a short time to work on it, try playing at a sponsored Simon Mall. Inns, Fortresses, and spawns are all plentiful.
- Save your Scrolls and your Restricted Section Books until the end of the event. Then use our guide to spend them wisely! That said, many Aurors and Magizoologists have already earned all the necessary Restricted Section Books, and some Professors are getting close.

Brilliant Hogwarts Crest
Brilliant Order of Merlin

I’m always disarmed by the sentence about the “Simon Mall”, whatever that is. 🙂
Shopping Center in the USA. I live near Chicago, and it’s really the only place to play if you don’t want to be out in the cold (or if you don’t want to drive and play). The mall by me has 2 sponsored fortresses, 1 regular fortress, and like 8 or 9 sponsored inns.
And wifi
Does this mean the tonic horn will be more available? Since only these will potions will be available?
It would be nice if I could bind my stock of pages into some type of book. The average book being around 300-350 pages.
I could be misreading your comment, but if you mean converting Scrolls to Restricted Section/Spell Books, that’s a friggin’ genius idea! I’m a Rank 13 Professor, 91% of the way to Rank 14; it’s taken me quite some time to get there – even though I started playing the day the game released – because I A) don’t get out very often to do Wizarding Challenges and B) when I do, I’m doing them alone. My breau quit playing after that first Community Day was kind of a damp squib and almost nobody else plays HPWU here – it’s not… Read more »
Tell me about it! I’m almost to level 14 as a Magizoologist…I only have 10 lessons until I complete my full lesson tree. HOWEVER, those 10 lessons cost more Spell Books than the entire rest of the tree combined. 132 lessons cost LESS than the 10 I have left to complete! It’s driving me nuts! Having Spell Books as event rewards has helped, but not enough. I’ve completed all the Achievements that have Spell Book rewards except Elites III Achievement. I play a lot, each day, but I don’t have hours to spend at fortresses and no sponsored fortresses near… Read more »
Nobody around me plays, either. I’ve had that one SOS assignment waiting for me for months. I’ll never be able to complete it. I’m glad I chose Magizoologist because they end up being the best solo player profession. Pretty quickly you learn healing charms for fortress battles and end up with nearly double the HP of the other two professions. So while it’s not the most powerful profession to begin with, it allows you to level up pretty quickly anyways. Once you have all the specialty skills unlocked, Magi’s are OP to the point where I was worried they’d nerf… Read more »
I just posted this and a few other ideas I had. I have a few suggestions for this game: One of my main issues with this game is the lack of communication for local players. Why this was omitted in the beginning is baffling. Am I supposed to walk up and talk to everyone I meet in a cemetery or knock on some stranger’s car window? That’s not very likely. We need something similar to Ingress where we can either see others playing and/or communicate with them safely. Without it this is a lonely game with no community that will… Read more »
The description of Task 3/4 and 4/4 wronly used “Darkest of time” instead of “Lost Love”
I’m confused by the description of the new mechanic (wherein you place an image in the Registry and it affects certain potions) – does it have to be during/immediately following the image being placed and how long does it last? For instance, I placed the Minerva McGonagall image a few hours ago but am only finding out about this now – is it already too late to use the feature to increase the Tonic for Trace Detection potion? Since using the Tonic is part of the 3rd stage Quest requirements, I want to wait until then to use them –… Read more »
It lasts until the end of the event. For Trace potions, they each reveal 50% more traces.
The number of ingredients on the map has plummeted since the event started. 18 hrs since I last saw an ingredient for a brain potion (about 30 minutes before I got to the third set of quests). Usually they’re the most common ingredient I see.
Hooray for going for a 3km walk in the middle of winter! At least it’s only -9 C out today and not -30….
The third quest is pick up 3 barnuffo ingredients
Which have become impossible to find today. I’ve opened 3 portkeys walking and have yet to find a single one
