Adversaries Event Tasks and Rewards

“Let me see… Oh yeah! ctrl + c + v… Ta-da! We have an event!” -Terry the Intern, probably.

We have the same steps as before in other Adversary Events which, again, is slightly underwhelming. I know that play is limited to players being home due to COVID, but there could at least be some variation in the tasks that actually spice things up a bit.

I’m really not looking forward to fighting Aragog 29348756 times just to try and beat him 4 times. As an Auror main, I’ll be flailing around like Ron at Quidditch tryouts just trying to not die, much less actually do some damage against this hairy, 8-legged terror. I expect Magizoologist players to be laughing all the way to Gringotts due to their near-invincibility, and Professors might have an even tougher time since they have less damage than Aurors do. Either way, expect a grind.

Oh well, I’m monologuing and about 1/2 through my first cup of coffee, so just look at these tasks now.

Defeat 35 Foes in Wizarding Challenges 2 Strong Exstimulo Potions
Use Master Notes 8 Times 1 Edible Dark Mark
Earn 1500 Challenge XP Through Challenges and Adversary Chains 6 Ginger Root (wow)
Use Any 7 Exstimulo Potion Variants Against Adversaries 20 Spell Energy
Use 3 Wit-Sharpening Potions Against Adversaries 4 Healing Potions
Deal 25,000 Damage to Adversaries 1 Silver Key
Defeat Aragog 4 Times 1 DADA Book
Return 20 Artefact Fragments from the Aragog Chain 2 DADA Books

Rewards upon Quest Completion:

  • 5 Defense Against the Dark Arts Books
  • 1 Edible Dark Mark
  • 500 Wizarding XP
  • 60 Gold
  • 30 Spell Energy

How to Prepare for February’s Adversaries Event

Here is Editor-in-Chief Brita’s advice from the last event. It’s really good so I’m putting it below for you all as well! Read on to optimize your gameplay per her advice:

As I’ve suggested before, prioritize building up a Profession Lesson Plan. Ideally, you will have a completed Lesson Plan already, but I realize new players need more time to collect resources. Grind Wizarding Challenges to collect more Spell Books.

After you finish a Profession Lesson Plan, start working on Advanced Adversarial Combat. The Precision nodes (on the right) increase your chances of getting a Critical Hit (inflicting more Damage). The Dodge nodes (on the left) increase your chances of dodging (taking no Damage).

Also work on your SOS Training, particularly with your Potions nodes. This chart indicates the different nodes and their locations to strengthen your Potions. Most of these nodes increase a Potion’s potency, but I’ve bolded the ones that add an additional use or charge to your Potion.

Location Node Effect
CE I,5 Engarde! Exstimulo Potion Potency Increase
CE I,9 Brunch or Linner? Exstimulo Potion Potency Increase
CE II,22 Was Mundungus Here? Exstimulo Potion Potency Increase
CE I,12 Awesome Blossom Exstimulo Potion Duration Increase
CE I,8 Twisting Spleens Healing Potion Potency Increase
CE I,9 Name in the Paper! Healing Potion Potency Increase
CE II,15 Muggle Medicines Healing Potion Potency Increase
CE I,8 Hand in Hand Strong Exstimulo Potion Potency Increase
CE II,17 St. Mungos Strong Exstimulo Potion Potency Increase
CE II,28 Ebb and Neap Strong Exstimulo Potion Potency Increase
CE I,20 Ice Cream Social Strong Exstimulo Potion Duration Increase
CE I,12 Volunteer Work Potent Exstimulo Potion Potency Increase
CE II,32 Light My Fire Potent Exstimulo Potion Potency Increase
CE III,38 Tempermental Cauldrons Potent Exstimulo Potion Potency Increase
CE III,42 Wasted on the Old Potent Exstimulo Potion Duration Increase
CE II,22 Whetstone for the Mind Wit-Sharpening Potion Potency Increase
CD II,32 Recipe Recitation Wit-Sharpening Potion Potency Increase
CE II,40 I’ll Be the Knight Wit-Sharpening Potion Potency Increase
CE II,32 Wit Beyond Leisure Wit-Sharpening Potion Duration Increase

Start brewing Healing Potions! Remember that the Healing Potion must be used while you are playing “offense.” The Potions button briefly disappears when you are casting Protego. (The NDA team has critiqued this game design, but it remains unchanged for now).

Start collecting Ingredients for Exstimulo Potions and Wit-Sharpening Potions. You’ll want a good stockpile of these to take advantage of the reduced brewing time with Master Notes.

Brew a few Exstimulo Potions and Wit-Sharpening Potions in advance. You’ll want some on hand immediately when the event begins.

Open up your maximum Gifts each day, prioritizing Gifts that give you the aforementioned Potions and/or Ingredients.

Fill up on Spell Energy! Even when using Potions, you go through Spell Energy quickly to defeat Adversaries.

Fill up your Trace Charm charges if possible. Get in your daily steps, and avoid using your Trace Charm unless you are maxed out. As far as I know, there’s still a glorious bug that reveals Adversaries when players put the Trace Charm on Traces with orange and red beams.

The Problem for Rural Players at Home

If you live in a rural area, and you need to play from home, you can still get at least 6 Adversaries during the event through free Edible Dark Marks… Assuming you can collect the free gift.

First use Master Notes on 8 Potions. Brew regular Exstimulo Potions if you want to complete this task quickly without spending any Gold. Then you will earn an Edible Dark Mark.

Use the two Edible Dark Marks. These will reveal a total of 6 Adversaries. While there is a higher likelihood of them being Aragog, there is not a guarantee… Which makes things difficult for players dependent upon Edible Dark Marks.

Be abundant with your Potions if these are the only Adversaries you will see. You don’t want to lose the Encounter. At the very least, use the required 7 Exstimulo Potions and the 3 Wit-Sharpening Potions to complete those tasks.

Thanks Brita for all that amazing insight! Oh wait… There’s… more? Okay, carry on… I’ll just be over here letting her do all the work. 🙂

Tips to Enjoy the Adversaries Event

(Brita, cont’d)

This advice assumes you get Traces at your home, or you’re able to visit an area with Wizards Unite activity on the Map. Please stay safe, no matter what you do.

To place all of the Images on the Adversary pages, you need fewer of the final Adversary than you do of the Artefacts. For example, you need 9 Aragog Images to place, but up to 15 Images of certain Artefacts.

If you are low on Spell Energy and/or Potions, you can work to prestige your Registry pages while still conserving resources. Once you have placed Aragog, back out from future Adversary chains after you defeat the Guards. You will still receive Artefact Fragments by defeating the Guards.

However, this strategy does mean you earn less DADA Books. If you want to grind DADA Books AND conserve resources, follow this strategy only Aragog and other Adversaries who require 2000+ damage to defeat. Complete the full chains for the following Adversaries:

  • Gilderoy Lockhart
  • Draco Malfoy
  • Fenrir Greyback

If you really want to grind DADA Books, your best strategy involves going to an area with multiple POIs in the game. Plant Snowdrop or Wormwood at a Greenhouse. Walk from Inn to Inn if available, or sit by an Inn if you just have one. Replenish your Spell Energy between Adversary Encounters.

Also keep a close eye on your Potions so you can collect new ones immediately and use Master Notes on the next one.

Adversaries Event Bundles

Like all Wizards Unite events, this Adversaries Event will feature store bundles. The free store pack includes an Edible Dark Mark! These bundles are exactly the same as last month, but I will break down their values again.

The free store pack includes:

  • 1 Edible Dark Mark
  • 2 Healing Potions
  • 1 Exstimulo Potion
  • 30 Spell Energy

The Arresto Adversary Bundle includes:

  • 3 Edible Dark Marks
  • 125 Spell Energy

Is this bundle a good deal?

You can buy 5 Edible Dark Marks for 1200 Gold, making the individual value 240 Gold. Thus the value of 3 Edible Dark Marks is 720 Gold. If you only want discounted Edible Dark Marks, this bundle is not a good value. If you want discounted Spell Energy, then the bundle is a decent deal.

The Adversary Vanquisher Trunk includes:

  • 5 Edible Dark Marks
  • 125 Spell Energy
  • 10 Potent Exstimulo Potions
  • 5 Wit-Sharpening Potions
  • 5 Healing Potions

5 Edible Dark Marks cost 1200 Gold.

A single Potent Exstimulo Potion in Diagon Alley costs 75 Gold. However, if you have all of the common Ingredients, it’s a better deal to buy 1 Unicorn Hair for 30 Gold, use Master Notes in the Cauldron, and then collect the Potion immediately for 41 Gold. So let’s put the value of Potent Exstimulo Potions at 71 Gold.

10 Potent Potions is worth 710 Gold.

Wit-Sharpening Potions and Healing Potions all have common Ingredients, so players shouldn’t spend money on them.

The value of this bundle before Spell Energy is 1910 Gold. If you don’t need Spell Energy, then this bundle is not a good deal.

Final Adversaries Event Notes

Basically, big shout-out to Brita’s guide from the last event. It was far too similar to last event and wayyyy too detailed (in the best way) to just pass up a sweet opportunity to copy/paste. I mean, if WB Games does it, why can’t we?

Also, check out her video for even more math.

All seriousness aside, I’m going to try my best to beat that big blind spider enough to complete the tasks, but I know my Potions stores will suffer greatly.

What do you think? Bang or bust on this event? Sound off below or join us on social media to get connected. Love you, mean it.

LOL Terry the Intern!!

These are getting repetitive. Maybe they could take suggestions from users?

The Tasks are not exactly the same as those from the last event. There is one difference, but it is rather crucial for low level players: up until now, you never needed to return the end Adversary of a chain. Up until now you could finish the Tasks by skimming off tier one or tier two followers. This time you need to really beat the end Adversary (four times). For low level players that makes the difference between needing few potions (the ones asked for in the Tasks) and a potential huge amount of potions.

There is a positive change in the tasks. We no longer need to waste an EDM and can save them for for when Lethal Adversaries are introduced into the game.

Another adversary event, and another waste of EDM. I used an EDM and faced 4 different adversaries, none of which were Aragog. There should be a minimum guarantee or at least a boosted chance of facing the featured adversary during an event, similar to how tonics always provide many featured trace opportunities during other events. I find this very frustrating and waste of previous resources, and I can only imagine how much more troublesome it must be for players who have even less opportunity to travel at the moment.
