If you’re a regular reader of Wizards Unite Hub, you’re already familiar with Harry Potter mobile games. You might be playing Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery or even Fantastic Beasts: Cases from the Wizarding World. You might be waiting for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

However, if your social circle is anything like my own, you might have noticed some confusion regarding the various Harry Potter mobile games. This article should clear that up by comparing three very different Harry Potter mobile games:

  • Fantastic Beasts: Cases from the Wizarding World
  • Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery
  • Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Fantastic Beasts: Cases from the Wizarding World

A mobile hidden-object game, Fantastic Beasts: Cases allows players to join the Ministry of Magic’s Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures as a new recruit. Players team up with other Ministry employees to solve mysteries related to fantastic beasts.

Game play includes finding hidden objects, interviewing witnesses, casting spells, brewing potions, and identifying magical beasts. Taking actions in the game requires navigating a system of energy, stars, gems, and coins.

Fantastic Beasts: Cases is a fairly straightforward game. It’s easy to play, and you can check in a few times a day for a few minutes at a time to progress the story.

The first two cases are not particularly exciting, but as I have yet to progress further, I can’t definitively say whether or not the game becomes more interesting. There’s not really any animation, but the artwork is beautiful.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery

A mobile role-playing game, Hogwarts Mystery allows players to attend Hogwarts, starting in their first year. Along with friends met along the way, players progress through their school years and attempt to solve a mystery.

Game play includes taking classes, learning new magical skills, befriending other students, dueling, and more. Taking actions in the game requires navigating a system of energy, coins, and gems.

Hogwarts Mystery is a fairly straightforward game. It’s easy to play, and you can check in a few times a day for a few minutes at a time to progress the story.

Thus far the story has kept my interest, but I’ve only recently started Year 3, so I can’t definitively say if the game remains intriguing. However, the classes and the friendship conversations quickly become repetitive. How many years does it take to learn Lumos?

To learn more Hogwarts Mystery opinions, I spoke with Adam the Auror and The Portkey Adventures. We also cleared up some misconceptions regarding the different Harry Potter mobile games.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

The third and final Harry Potter mobile game is Wizards Unite, an augmented-reality game that has not yet been released. Niantic, the company behind Pokémon GO, is working in collaboration with Portkey Games to develop Wizards Unite.

According to Pottermore, game play will be somewhat similar to Pokémon GO.

The game encourages you to step outside with your phone, explore your local surroundings and take part in a series of adventures, such as searching for magical creatures and bumping into iconic wizarding world characters along the way.
