Day of the Dragons and Wizards Unite Global Challenge Rewards

0

Congratulations, Witches and Wizards! During the Wizards Unite Fan Festival and the Global Challenge, we have unlocked some very exciting rewards! These rewards include extra XP, reduced Potion brewing time and reduced Portmanteau distance, and–perhaps most importantly–Dragons!

During the Wizards Unite Fan Festival, which was a wonderful event, attendees had the chance to encounter Dragons for the first time in this game. Those of us who participated in the Global Challenge from home, instead found Portkey Portmanteaus that included different kinds of Dragon Eggs. Because the Fan Festival Attendees returned so many Dragons during the Event, and the rest of us opened so many Dragon Portkey Portmanteaus, we have unlocked several rewards that we can enjoy in this next week.

Rewards for the Global Challenge

As we collected over one million Dragon Eggs of the each kind during the Global Challenge, we unlocked four rewards, which are already live in the game.

25% Wizarding XP bonus

For each Encounter, we will recieve 25% more Wizarding XP than normal. Baruffio’s Brain Elixir works to increase this bonus as well.

Note that this bonus is only for Encounters; it does not apply to Fortresses or rewards found in Portkeys.

Halved Potion brewing time

This is the perfect time to brew a bunch of Brain Elixirs, Potent Exstimulo Potions, or any other Potion that takes a long time. Or just many, many Exstimulo Potions or Healing Potions. The choice is yours!

Note that the Master Notes only take 15% off this decreased brewing time. They are still well worth using, of course, but don’t be surprised if you notice that they take fewer minutes off the brewing time than usual for that Potion.

Halved Portmanteau walking distance

All Portkey Portmanteaus will take only half the distance to open. When you put a key into a Portkey Portmanteau, the bar will be half filled immediately. If it doesn’t look like it, force quitting the game and opening it up again should fix it. This is an excellent time to crack open a few 10 kilometer Portmanteaus.

2x Dark Detector duration

Good news for anyone who still has sore feet after walking around White River State Park, or just walking a lot at home to unlock all the Dragon Eggs they found. Dark Detectors will last you a full hour instead of half an hour, so instead of walking to find new Encounters, you can find a spot where you can reach a few Inns and sit down with some Dark Detectors and Baruffio’s Brain Elixir, and take full advantage of the extra Wizarding XP.

How to take full advantage of these rewards

  • Brew as many Brain Elixirs as you can (if you run out of Leaping Toadstools, plant some in a Greenhouse near you). Potent Exstimulo Potions, Dawdle Draughts or Strong Invigoration Draughts are also good contenders, but of course, you know which Potions you have the most use for.
  • Find a spot with 3 or more Inns that you can put Dark Detectors on. Chug a Brain Elixir, and enjoy sitting for an hour just doing Encounters. Remember that Brain Elixirs still only last for half an hour, though. If gaining Wizarding XP is your main goal, this is probably your best bet.
  • If you also want to take advantage of the half Portmanteau walking distance, find an area that spawns many Encounters on its own, and walk around to open your Portmanteaus while doing Encounters. Again, don’t forget your Brain Elixir.
  • This might also be the time to try on some harder levels of the Fortresses, as you can quickly restock your supply of Potions.

These rewards run from September 2, 10 A.M. PDT, to September 9, again at 10 A.M. PDT. Make sure to take advantage while you can!

Day of the Dragons

The Dragons that were first seen during the Fan Festival will start making appearances in the world as Oddity Encounters starting this Saturday, September 7. Dragons will be regional, meaning that only one species of Dragon will be available in a certain area of the world.

Region Dragon
Oceania Antipodean Opaleye
Asia, the Middle East and India Chinese Fireball
Americas and Greenland Peruvian Vipertooth
Europe and Africa Welsh Green
The dragons and their home regions.

For a chance to encounter a different Dragon, make sure that you are out playing during the three hour window on September 7, dubbed the Day of the Dragons. During those three hours, apart from the Dragon that belongs in your region, you will be able to find one other species:

Region Dragon during Day of the Dragons event
Oceania Chinese Fireball
Asia, the Middle East and India Antipodean Opaleye
Americas and Greenland Chinese Fireball
Europe and Africa Chinese Fireball

So for three hours (the exact times can be found below), you will be able to encounter both the Dragon species that belongs in your region, and the one listed above. Both will be available as Oddity Encounters. We don’t know as of yet how common they will be, so if you can, you might want to find an Encounter dense area, just to be on the safe side.

After the three hours of the Day of the Dragons is over, you will still be able to encounter your own region’s Dragon indefinitely, although again, at which rate is unknown.

Remember that on September 7th, the rewards from the Global Challenge are still live, and since these will be new Encounters for you (unless you were at the Fan Festival), they will be worth more Wizarding XP already. Take extra care that you use Baruffio’s Brain Elixir to maximize XP gain during your Dragon hunting.

Update 09/05/2019: Fazes just announced that as an additional bonus, there will be a free store pack on Saturday! This will include:

  • 10 Scrolls
  • 5 Spellbooks
  • 25 Spell Energy

In addition, the Founders Portraits go live on Saturday! These are the Foundables you need to collect for the Registry page Moving Staircases II. The Wild Boar is available through Wizarding Challenges. The Hogwarts founders are all available as Encounters.

When are all the global rewards and dragons available?

If time zones confuse you as much as they confuse me, I have included a link on each of the times that will show you the equivalent time in your own time zone.

Rewards for the Global Challenge:

September 2, 10 A.M. PDT, to September 9, 10 A.M. PDT.

Day of the Dragons:

Asia-Pacific: September 7, from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. AEST (UTC +10)
Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India: September 7, from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. UTC
Americas and Greenland: September 7, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. PDT (UTC -7)

The regional Dragons will be available in the wild from September 7th. What time is undisclosed, but at least from the start of the Day of the Dragons, would be my guess.
