Dark Arts Month and Other Updates

It’s been a wild few days in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

Dark Arts Month

Yesterday, the HPWU team updated their blog with a post about a few exciting events throughout October.

Reports of sinister dark magic are on the rise and your help is needed! Work together with players around the world throughout the month of October to protect the wizarding world from the Calamity. Combat Death Eaters, vampires, werewolves–and maybe even an ancient evil slithering in the dark.

The blog post goes on to say that all signs suggest that everyone should remain vigilant of dark magical activity. It then lists everything going on in October.

As already reported, Fighting Forces is the new two-week Brilliant Event.

Fighting Forces Brilliant Event Part 1: October 8-14. A new quest featuring the spine-chilling Brilliant Death Eater and an Azkaban Escapee.

This started today. I’ll get back to this in a moment.

October Community Day: October 19. Expect more uncanny creatures including Vampire, Werewolf and Doxy Oddities appearing more frequently in the game.

No other details yet, so stay tuned.

Fighting Forces Brilliant Event Part 2: October 22-28. A new sinister quest featuring the Brilliant Sirius Black and a Dementor.

Find all the details of the second week of Fighting Forces in my article.

Exclusive Halloween Quest: October 31. Get ready for an exciting and exclusive Dark Arts-themed Wizarding Challenge Fortress Chamber and quest with limited-time rewards.

No other details yet, so stay tuned.

The promotional image features both a Basilisk and Dark Witch!!!! Dark Witch was in the early promotional videos, and she’s in the official Wizards Unite guide book. However, she hasn’t been in the game yet. Here’s hoping that she’ll join in this month!

Fighting Forces Brilliant Event

Today was the first day of the Fighting Forces Brilliant Event, Week One. A few tasks and rewards changed at the last minute, but you can find all the updated information at my Fighting Forces article.

One new feature is the free Store Pack. There are also two time-limited bundles available for purchase. I crunched the numbers, and I only recommend the Brilliant Bundle for the first week.

One of the first tasks involves using a Tonic for Trace Detection Potion. Well, turns out that has been tweaked in a magical way. Time will tell if this change is just for the Brilliant Event, just for the Dark Arts Month, or a permanent feature.

Players reported finding all sorts of Oddities outside their normal time and place. Dragons from other regions. Doxies during the day. Werewolves without a full moon.

I personally saw Doxies, Vampires, Horned Serpents, and Werewolves, all during the afternoon.

Oh, and FLUFFY!

Which brings us to the next update…

Updates in Wizards Unite

There’s a new Oddities Registry Page featuring the aforementioned Three-Headed Dog, a Death Eater, and an Azkaban Escapee.

New Oddities Registry Page!

Posted by Witches Unite on Monday, October 7, 2019

Also, Erumpent Horns are more common on the Map. You can also find them in Brilliant Portkeys.

This is perfect timing since players need a total of 4 Tonic for Trace Detection Potions to get through both weeks of Fighting Forces. Erumpent Horns have been notoriously rare outside of the last Community Day. Plus the Tonic for Trace Detection Potion is primarily showing Oddities right now, including rare Oddities.

It’s been an epic few days with all these announcements and discoveries in Wizards Unite! Personally, I played at two separate times today. Once for an hour by myself and again for half an hour with my husband. I went through 3 Tonic for Trace Detection Potions and 3 Baruffio’s Brain Elixirs. I haven’t seen a Dragon yet, but I did see many rare Oddities.

What do you think of everything going on this month? Are you excited?

Well, the events comes with lots of bugs. The Register page bug is the worst, either freezing the game (and forcing to restart) or just ignoring that you reached a new level – so no rewards, and especially no new brilliant runestones. As it is right now, this makes the event unplayable.

“Unplayable” is too much said, but those glitches could have been sent away earlier (the one with the freeze is not specific to the event) – as it is now, it’s indeed annoying, and it feels as if one played a beta version. And saying (via Disc) that restarting “fixes the issue” seems a bit disrespectful towards the players: it doesn’t fix the issue, it’s just the only thing one can do in order to play on (until it freezes again).

I’ve been finding the registry freezing annoying but ok restarting isn’t the end of the world assuming we still get the reward. But today using my last exustimulo potion against a high risk foundable it froze, gave me an error message, and restarted itself. So I lost the potion (though it still counted toward having used it for the event task). Luckily the foundable was still there after restarting but grrrrrr
