Witches and Wizards! Today marks the 20th anniversary of the very first Harry Potter book in the United States! Feel old, right? It’s incredible how this universe has evolved over the years, and how it keeps growing even now, 20 years later! Who would have thought that J.K. Rowling would be setting up what would become perhaps the biggest literary ensemble after the Bible?! For many of us, the wizarding world created by Rowling will be a saga comparable to Star Wars and someday, we shall become the generation that will share our passion for a saga with younger generations!

“Okay Boon, this intro is going nowhere, move on!” Fair enough, onto the actual news!

While there would be a lot more to say as to how we feel in relation to the fact that the Harry Potter saga is now 20 years old, there is some other important news to share!

2018 Dragon Awards – Dragon Con 2018

First of all, if you do not know what Dragon Con is, it’s a convention where science fiction meets gaming, meets fantasy, meets comics, meets cosplays, meets a whole lot of nerd! It has been around for over 20 years now, and it is a well-known convention in Atlanta!

Every year, they give awards to various science fiction/gaming/fantasy related games/movies/books/etc. This year, the infamous Hogwarts Mystery has been awarded the Best Science Fiction or Fantasy Mobile Game!

This award is voted on by fans (over 11,000 votes submitted!) and presented at Dragon Con. Hogwarts Mystery beat out several other science fiction and fantasy mobile games to win. The other nominees were:

  • Planescape: Torment, the Enhanced Edition by Beamdog
  • Nocked! by Andrew Schneider
  • Lineage 2: Revolution by Netmarble
  • Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition by Square Enix
  • Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery by Jam City

For all its flaws, Hogwarts Mystery is a fun mobile game for both casual and dedicated Harry Potter fans. For some fans, after 20 years of enjoying the wizarding world, playing Hogwarts Mystery is a little like coming home.

Which is probably why we all loved the #BackToHogwarts campaign over the weekend…
