we’ve observed a curious job opening on Niantic’s official Career page, named “Full Stack Web Engineer”. The job description clearly, indisputably, states that Niantic is working on a web application that should enable Point of Interest (POI) submission for the entire world.
The following is written in the job description:
Build intuitive and beautiful web applications that let millions of users view and submit data on the world’s most interesting locations. You will work with a proven and experienced team of mobile and cloud developers to gather and display geo data at scale and empower players on a gameboard consisting of the entire world.
In addition, we finally have a better understanding of Niantic’s web technology stack, with Java / Python on the server side and Angular JS on the client side. The job is available for two NIA locations: San Francisco and Sunnyvale.
Niantic’s web portfolio is limited at the moment, with Ingress leading the way in terms of sheer quantity of supporting web apps. OPR and Intel MAP are at the core of NIA’s online portfolio, offering Ingress agents the following:
- a tool to review and rate Portal submissions (Ingress equivalent of a PokéStop / Gym)
- a real time map to see the current state of the game and which faction controls which portion of the world
As of the time of this writing, we have no information on how long the job opening will be available. We’ll update you as soon as we have more information.
