Wormtail and the Marauders Adversaries Event

Wormtail and the Marauders Adversaries Event

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will start off August with a creative Adversaries Event! I love when the HPWU team puts together interesting events that aren’t just carbon copies of previous events. This Adversaries Event features Peter Pettigrew AND the Marauders, including Young Peter Pettigrew.

Once again, the Baruffio’s Brain Elixir Spotlight Event is available for players levels 4-14.

Keep reading this Wizards Unite event guide to discover all event details, including tasks, rewards, and strategic tips.

Note: Thank you Niantic and WB Games for providing Wizards Unite Hub with early information so we can create Wizards Unite guides. They do not pay us for these articles. We rely on ad revenue and donations to run this website.

Adversaries Event Tasks and Rewards

These tasks are fairly straightforward, not that different than anything we’ve seen in previous events. The main challenge will be for rural players to find enough Adversaries, and for all players to get a second Edible Dark Mark. I have read your comments here and on social media. I know that many of you have had bad RNG in earning EDMs by defeating Adversaries, and you don’t want to spend Gold to buy EDMs. Unfortunately, the HPWU team has disregarded my feedback on this particular task.

Quest Step Reward
Use 2 Edible Dark Marks 20 Spell Energy
Return 10 Young Peter Pettigrew Foundables 1 Wit-Sharpening Potion
Return 6 Young James Potter Foundables 2 Strong Exstimulo Potions
Earn 1750 Challenge XP Through Wizarding Challenges and/or Adversary Chains 6 Snowdrop
Use 7 Potions in Adversary Encounters 1 Silver Key
Deal 27,500 Damage to Adversaries 1 DADA Book
Return 18 Artefact Fragments from Peter Pettigrew Chains 1 DADA Book
Defeat Peter Pettigrew 5 Times 1 DADA Book

Completion rewards:

  • 5 Defense Against the Dark Arts Books
  • 500 Wizarding XP
  • 60 Gold
  • 30 Spell Energy

Adversaries Event BONUS Tasks and Rewards

This Adversaries Event includes a Bonus Assignment! Again, the tasks are fairly straightforward. In fact, they’re easier than past Bonus Assignments for Adversaries events.

Quest Step Reward
Return 25 Young Marauder Foundables 1 Spell Book
Collect 6 Fragments of Pettigrew’s Silver Hand 1 Spell Book
Return 3 Unfinished Marauder’s Maps from Dark Chambers 1 Spell Book

Completion rewards:

  • 5 Defense Against the Dark Arts Books
  • 5 Restricted Section Books
  • 1000 Wizarding XP
  • 40 Gold
  • 30 Spell Energy
  • 1 Fearless Fighter title

Don’t worry too much about completing the Bonus Assignment, unless you really need Restricted Section Books. If you’re not having fun playing Wizards Unite, what’s the point? Don’t stress about it!

How to Prepare for August’s Adversaries Event

The preparation for this particular Adversaries Event is basically identical to what we advised for Gilderoy Lockhart Adversaries Event due to the similarity. Keep in mind that while preparation is helpful, it’s also important to use your resources wisely while playing. This particular Adversaries Event only features 1 Adversary, so it will be much easier to prestige that page!

You will also find additional advice to help you prestige Hogwarts Grounds in Legends of Hogwarts. Personally, I need 3 Young Sirius Black Fragments, 12 Young Peter Pettigrew Fragments, and 16 Unfinished Marauder’s Map Fragments to have place everything on a gold frame, so I’m excited!

Prepare to Defeat Adversaries

Basic advice and simple explanations.

  1. Finish a Profession Lesson Plan. It’s extremely difficult to battle Adversaries if you haven’t done this.
  2. Work on Advanced Adversarial Combat. You need fewer Potions and Spell Energy to defeat Adversaries if you unlock these nodes.
  3. Improve your Potions through SOS Training so your Potions are more effective!
  4. Start brewing Tonics for Trace Detection, Healing Potions, Exstimulo Potions, and Wit-Sharpening Potions. You will need to use a combination of these Potions during the event.
  5. Start collecting extra Ingredients for Exstimulo Potions and Wit-Sharpening Potions. These Potions will have reduced brewing time during the event.
  6. Fill up on Spell Energy! Combat with Adversaries burns a lot of Spell Energy.
  7. Open up your maximum Gifts each day, prioritizing Gifts that give you the aforementioned resources.
  8. Purchase Vault Extensions. This is a great use of Gold. You’re better able to stockpile resources before Adversaries Events if your Vault can hold more.

This SOS Training chart indicates the different nodes and their locations to improve your Potions. Note the inclusion of nodes to improve Tonic for Trace Detection.

Baruffio’s Spotlight Event Prep

If you are at level 4 to level 14 in Wizards Unite, this is the chance to level up quickly! Here are the bonuses:

• Baruffio’s Brain Elixir brew time reduced to 6 hours
• Master Notes will reduce Baruffio’s Brain Elixir brew time by 50%
• Baruffio’s Brain Elixir effects increased to 3X

First, follow the advice above for collecting Ingredients for Exstimulo Potions. You can take advantage of the reduced brewing time. Exstimulo Potions will help you return higher threat Traces and therefore earn more Wizarding XP.

Start saving all the Ingredients for Baruffio’s Brain Elixir! These are all the Ingredients you need to brew one Baruffio’s Brain Elixir.

2Leaping Toadstool 1
Frog Brain
1Runespoor Eggs 1Powdered Dragon Claw

Frog Brains and Runespoor Eggs are fairly easy to find. Leaping Toadstools are rarely available on the Map–you mostly need to grow those in Greenhouses. Powdered Dragon Claws are exclusively available as Portkey rewards.

Leaping Toadstool has a 24-hour growing time. Plant seeds in a Greenhouse, and use Spell Energy to maximize the yield. Come back the next day at the same time to collect your Leaping Toadstools. To get even more Leaping Toadstools, use your Greenhouse Charm on the Greenhouse before you collect your Ingredients.

Walk a lot to unlock Portkeys for a chance at Powdered Dragon Claw.

You can also ask your friends to send you Baruffio’s Brain Elixir Gifts.

You should also brew at least a few Dawdle Draughts. These will help you return Severe and Emergency Traces more easily.

These are the Ingredients you need for Dawdle Draught.

Valerian Root Sopophorous Bean Butterscotch Hermit Crab Shell

You can find all Master Notes for all Potions here.

Tips to Enjoy the Adversaries Event

Article disclaimer: This advice assumes you have safe and easy access to Wizards Unite activity on the Map. We are STILL in a pandemic, so prioritize your health and follow all local laws! I realize the tasks are not possible to do at home if you don’t get Map activity, AND if you don’t have a stockpile of EDMs available to use. I have AGAIN shared my frustration about this event design to the HPWU team, but they continue to make events difficult for rural players.

End disclaimer. 🙂

Tip for players of all levels: Always keep a close eye on your Potions so you can collect new ones immediately and use Master Notes on the next one. Keep brewing Potions constantly. With the reduced brewing time for Exstimulo Potions and Wit-Sharpening Potions, you can stock up!

Prestige Adversary Pages Quickly

To place all of the Images on the Adversary pages, you need fewer of the final Adversary than you do of the Artefacts. This is true of all Feared Adversaries, including Peter Pettigrew.

If you are low on Spell Energy and/or Potions, you can work to prestige your Registry pages while still conserving resources. Once you have placed an Adversary, and you have returned them enough times to place again, back out from future Adversary chains after you defeat the Guards. You will still receive Artefact Fragments by defeating the Guards.

However, this strategy does mean you earn fewer DADA Books. It’s up to you if you want to prioritize grinding DADA Books or prestiging pages.

Prestige Hogwarts Grounds

Everything on the Hogwarts Grounds Registry page in the Legends of Hogwarts Registry is boosted for this event! All of the Young Marauders are boosted on the Map and while using Tonic for Trace Detection. The Challenge-exclusive Foundable is guaranteed when doing Wizarding Challenges in any Dark Chamber.

If you want to prestige this page, start grinding Wizarding Challenges with Legends of Hogwarts Runestones. During the event, continue to use Legends of Hogwarts Runestones in all Wizarding Challenges. Do as many as you can in Dark I or higher. This will help you earn the necessary Unfinished Marauder’s Map Fragments.

In addition, use lots of Tonic for Trace Detection, preferably while walking a loop in an area with good Map activity. Prioritize the Legends of Hogwarts Traces with beams to get the Marauders.

Grind DADA Books

If you really want to grind DADA Books, your best strategy involves going to an area with multiple Points of Interest in the game. Plant Snowdrop or Wormwood at a Greenhouse if available, based on the Potions you need. Walk from Inn to Inn if possible, or sit by an Inn if you just have one. Replenish your Spell Energy between Adversary Encounters.

Use an EDM for 3 additional Adversaries every 30 minutes. Use more Exstimulo Potions and Wit-Sharpening Potions that required to defeat Adversaries more quickly.

You earn 1 guaranteed DADA Book for each Adversary you defeat. Occasionally you can earn 1 DADA Book from defeating a Guard. You earn additional DADA Books by placing Adversary Images in the Challenges Registry.

Grind Wizarding XP (Spotlight Event)

If you are level 4-14, you can level up this weekend! I have a detailed video guide to the Baruffio’s Brain Elixir Spotlight Event.

Ideally, you will visit a place with Inns. Stack Dark Detectors on the Inns. Drink a Brain Elixir. Return all of the Foundables. If you’re overwhelmed by Traces, prioritize anything with an orangish-red beam (Severe-threat) or a red beam (Emergency-threat).

Anything with an orangish-red beam or red beam needs a Strong or Potent Exstimulo Potion, plus a Dawdle Draught. Anything with an orange beam needs a regular Exstimulo Potion, if possible.

While your Brain Elixir is still running, open up 20 Gifts, prioritizing anything labeled Extravagant. Open any Portkeys that are ready.

If you are unable to visit an area with Inns, use a Tonic for Trace Detection. While you might not get any red beams, you can still grind Wizarding XP by returning Foundables. You can also easily use a Tonic for Trace Detection while walking around, so you can open Portkeys at the same time.

Finish Bonus Assignment

If you want the 3 extra Spell Books, 5 extra DADA Books AND 5 extra Restricted Section Books, be strategic on the regular tasks to finish them quickly.

Use your first EDM immediately, but wait until you have completed all other tasks to use your second EDM. (Unless you rely on EDMs for Adversaries, then use them as needed).

Walk around while using the EDM to find the necessary Young Peter Pettigrew and Young James Potter Foundables.

After your first EDM finishes, use a Tonic for Trace Detection. Focus on:

  • Young Peter Pettigrew (Legends of Hogwarts, orange beam)
  • Young James Potter (Legends of Hogwarts, orangish-red beam)

At the same time, keep walking around to find more Adversaries while you also return Foundables. If you’re nervous about getting to the Bonus Assignment in time, back out of any Adversaries who are not Peter Pettigrew.

If you want to prestige those pages, you can split the difference by just defeating the Guards to collect Artefact Fragments. And if you really want to save on resources, just defeat the first Guard then flee. While this is a slow process for collecting Artefact Fragments, it’s a valid choice to balance out your goals with your resources.

Keep walking to find Adversaries and Foundables, replenishing your Tonic for Trace Detection as needed. While defeating Adversaries, you will naturally earn Artefact Fragments and use Potions.

After you defeat 5 Peter Pettigrew Adversaries, you still need to deal up to 4,320 Damage to Adversaries. (Less if you defeated other Adversaries).

Defeating Draco Malfoy deals 2,586 Damage while defeating Narcissa Malfoy deals 5,378 Damage. Reaching the required 27,500 Damage means you need to defeat 1-2 additional Adversaries after the 5 Peter Pettigrew Adversaries.

How much Challenge XP do you still need after defeating 5 Peter Pettigrew Adversaries?

You’ll still need up to 1640 Challenge XP. (Less if you defeated other Adversaries).

To earn the remaining Challenge XP, visit a local Fortress or hop on the Knight Bus. Solo in the Tower Chambers with Level 2 Runestones for a balance of resources (time, Spell Energy, and Runestones) needed to earn enough Challenge XP.

After completing all other tasks, use the second EDM. Collect your task rewards. Return to the Map. Confirm the Bonus Assignment is live. Start tracking down more of Peter Pettigrew.

Once your EDM expires, use a Tonic for Trace Detection to find the Marauders Foundables.

Pettigrew’s Silver Hand drops from both Guards, plus the traitor himself. Even with good RNG, you will most likely need to defeat Peter Pettigrew at least 2 more times to collect these Artefacts. With bad RNG, you will need to defeat many more. To save on resources, consider backing out after defeating the Guards.

If you’re comfortable soloing Dark Chambers, you can try that. Otherwise, wait until you can do Wizarding Challenges with a group before you tackle that. To complete these quickly, stick with Dark I.

XpectoGO does a Wednesday Knight Bus livestream at 3:30pm ET. This is near the end of the Adversaries Event, so the perfect time to coordinate Dark Chambers with other players.

I was amazed at how many EDM that one player had in a previous adversaries event. With this in mind, I played every adversary I came across hoping to build my stash of 0. Lol. One, just one, that’s all I received in playing over 10 adversaries at different locations!

What’s the ratio others are finding?

Once again, disappointed with HPWU!

I think I average 1-2 EDM’s per event, and probably around 50 total adversary fights during an event depending on length of the event, and live in a pretty rural area. The event has not started here yet and I have 48 EDMs at the moment, so if history repeats I should be around 49 after finishing the whole quest chain but I’ll update here after the event ends.

Really. Wow. You are averaging just under 1 EDM per battle. That’s great for you. I am in suburbia and drive from one area to another to find adversaries Often without any luck

If this helps… My town population is 5300 people so a pretty small size town, but the local Truck Stop usually has a really high concentration of encounters due to all the cell phone usage in that small area, so I will grab lunch at their restaurant and be pretty active for an hour. At work I can hit 2 tea houses so a pretty dencent spawn rate from my desk. Half way through the event I have 48 EDMs still and am working on the bonus stage right now so probably won’t need to use another during this event… Read more »

Ended the event with 50 EDMs saved up. First 2 days were great for Peter Pettigrew spawns, I definitely saw more of him than of other adversary encounters, but the back half of the event I only saw him 3 times out of 40+ encounters which really took the wind out of my sails in getting him to gold.

At least this time they delivered on the restricted section books….

How does one find Young Wormtail foundable? That page is he on?

Sigh, sorry about that spelling. What page is that foundable on? I don’t see it listed anywhere, and my Google searching is coming up blank. It is the second item in the Quest list, just after “Use 2 Edible Dark Marks”

So Young Wormtail = Young Peter Pettigrew?

Anyone having trouble with crashing since the last update? Everyone I try and open a spell energy gift (but not other gifts). And in the middle of adversary chains it crashes!

The spell energy gift glitch is a known bug. It should be fixed soon.
I see crashes in adversary chains once in a while. I think it usually happens when my internet connection gets spotty. It would be nice if connection problems gave me a chance to fix my connection before dumping me back to the map.

Yeah lots of people have had crashes after energy gifts, including me. I haven’t had any problems with the chains, however other people have.

What’s RNG? I’m sure when someone tells me, I will smack myself upside the head. Anyway, I’m having lots of trouble getting Peter’s silver hand for the bonus. Grrr! My potion stockpile is dwindling!!!

RNG stands for Random Number Generator. It’s a bunch of math to spit out random numbers (technically psuedo-random, but that’s not really important here). It’s the computer version of a handful of dice.

James Potter seems to be the rare item this time. Not even tonics are bringing him up often. Most of my tonics have not brought up any James.

We are supposed to get six James. If we got one per tonic, that would be three hours of time. Since it isn’t one per tonic, I’m not sure how many hours it will take.

Yes, I agree. Four tonic for trace detection only had gotten me one James. I am not sure ‘boosted’ is an accurate phrase!

Reply to  Ed Wandall

Well that is it for me to play the event, still missing one young James to finish. I’ll play every day if I can, but this broke things too much for me. I’ll try to do the brilliant events, get free gifts, take advantage of the boosted stuff, and build up. I’ve complained about so called boosted items for many events, however they are not listening.

I used 5 tonics and 3 dark detectors and got zero james potters 🙁
