The second week based on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban starts soon in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite!
Return Brilliant Foundables to the Brilliant Whomping Willow Hillside during Part 2 of the Prisoner of the Vow Brilliant Event.
Much to Hermione’s dismay, Gareth Greenglass offers Harry a potentially deadly deal. But does the former member of The Unforgiveable even intend to keep his end of the bargain?
Prisoner of the Vow Brilliant Event Week 2 will be September 6-13, 2021.
Note: Thank you Niantic and WB Games for providing this information early so Wizards Unite Hub could create this event guide.
Prisoner of the Vow Brilliant Event Part 2 Guide
Once again, this Brilliant Event has been adapted so you can play at home. Be safe! Follow local rules and regulations, and be respectful of other people and your surroundings.
As a reminder, Part 1 Portkeys will give you Part 1 rewards anytime you open them, even if you wait to open them during Part 2. Keep an eye out for the Bonus Assignment that will be available to complete after the main tasks have been accomplished!

How to Prepare for the Brilliant Event
Most Wizards Unite events, including Brilliant Events, will be easier to complete if you work on your SOS Training. Unlock as many of these nodes as you can!
With a more potent Baruffio’s Brain Elixir, you can earn Wizarding XP more quickly.
With reduced brewing times for Exstimulo Potions and Healing Potions, you can complete Master Notes tasks more quickly.
With more Traces revealed by Tonic for Trace Detection, you can more quickly find Brilliant Traces, as well as the Ministry Executioner and Buckbeak. This will help you complete tasks.

Brilliant Event Tasks
If you want to complete the Brilliant Event quickly, you need to time your Potions carefully. You’ll want to pre-brew 3 potions for the first quest that can be collected as soon as the Event begins. Do NOT use Master Notes! Queue up Healing or regular Exstimulo Potions in your Cauldron that will be waiting for you in the third quest.
Note: If you know the exact brewing time of your Potions based on your SOS Training, you can be more precise with when you start your Potions.
The second quest has potential overlap on tasks if you cast “great” spells against the Ministry Executioner, but how quickly you can complete it will largely be up to RNG.
Additionally, stop returning Brilliant Foundables if you reach 19 of either while on the first quest. Once you reach 20, you’re automatically taken to the Brilliant Registry Page, which you do not want. If you forget, you can force close the app to avoid collecting any Brilliant Runestones.
If you have any Brilliant Portkeys left from the first week, wait to open them until you reach the second quest. This will be a big source of Brilliant Family XP.
The third quest WILL slow you down some, unless you’re willing to spend Gold to speed things up when brewing Potions. As such, think of it as a rest and don’t stress about the RNG for Brilliant Werewolf Foundables.
The fourth quest is largely a grind, collecting Mysterious Note Pieces. Also make sure you do not place any Brilliant Images until you reach that quest. Of course, if you have plentiful access to Brilliant Traces, but the other tasks are slowing you down, you might choose to place the Brilliant Images multiple times.
If you’re reading this Brilliant Event guide in advance, you can also earn more Brilliant Madam Rosmerta Fragments by doing Wizarding Challenges. Then you will be ready to place that Brilliant Image when you reach this task.
Prisoner of the Vow Quest 1/4
Collecting Ingredients, Portmanteaus, Spell Energy, or Seeds is pretty straightforward.
Pre-brew the Potions, so they are ready to collect when the event begins.
Use a Tonic for Trace Detection to find enough Brilliant Traces.
|Collect 3 Ingredients or Portmanteaus on the Map||3 Granian Hair|
|Brew 3 Potions||3 Leaping Toadstool|
|Return 12 Brilliant Whomping Willow Foundables||1 Strong Invigoration Draught|
1st Quest Rewards
- 550 Wizarding XP
- 2 Restricted Section Books
- 50 Brilliant Family XP
- 10 Spell Energy
Prisoner of the Vow Quest 2/4
These tasks go together quite nicely. Tonic for Trace Detection should help you find the Ministry Executioner, as well as the Brilliant Traces that will help you earn Brilliant XP to collect more Runestones. You could also use a Trace Charm on a Ministry Executioner to replicate, if you prefer.
This quest includes the most challenging and/or frustrating task, requiring you to cast Great (or Masterful) spells. Remember that the speed you cast your spell at matters along with how accurately you trace it, so pick up your pace if at all possible.
Note: The Brilliant Dementor from Part 1 and the Brilliant Werewolf are Oddities! This means that the spells cast against them are not ranked as “great” and will not help you with that task.
|Defeat 10 Ministry Executioners||1 Strong Exstimulo Potion|
|Cast 15 Great (or better) Spells||6 Snowdrop|
|Collect 6 Brilliant Prisoner of the Vow Runestones||2 Erumpent Horn|
2nd Quest Rewards
- 750 Wizarding XP
- 75 Brilliant Family XP
- 3 Restricted Section Books
- 10 Spell Energy
Prisoner of the Vow Quest 3/4
As with the previous quest, a Tonic for Trace Detection is the best way to spawn Brilliant Werewolves. Because the Master Notes task cannot be sped up without spending Gold (either to collect a Potion early or rent a second Cauldron), you will have plenty of time to find the Foundables needed.
Hop on the Knight Bus. Ruins V to Tower II usually give you 3-4 Foes, so you can knock those out fairly quickly.
|Return 12 Brilliant Werewolf Foundables||1 Silver Key|
|Use Master Notes 4 Times||6 Ginger Root|
|Defeat 15 Foes in Wizarding Challenges||2 Exstimulo Potions|
3rd Quest Rewards
- 1250 Wizarding XP
- 75 Brilliant Family XP
- 5 Restricted Section Books
- 10 Spell Energy
Prisoner of the Vow Quest 4/4
After the previous quests, you probably have Brilliant Werewolf and Brilliant Whomping Willow Images to place in the Registry. To place the final Images quickly, do Wizarding Challenges with Brilliant Runestones. You only need 3 Brilliant Azkaban Escapee Sirius Black Fragments to place it. You can place this over and over.
Drink a Baruffio’s Brain Elixir to earn Wizarding XP more quickly, and then climb aboard the Knight Bus.
Remember that ANY of the four Prisoner of the Vow Foundables can help you collect Mysterious Note Pieces. If you are running low on Spell Energy or Potions, try to focus on the Brilliant Dementor and Brilliant Werewolf that will be easier to return.
|Place 5 Brilliant Prisoner of the Vow Foundables on the Whomping Willow Hillside Registry Page||1 Spell Book|
|Earn 7500 Wizarding XP from Challenges||1 Spell Book|
|Collect 15 Mysterious Note Pieces By Returning Brilliant Prisoner of the Vow Foundables||1 Spell Book|
4th Quest Rewards
- 5 Restricted Section Books
- 50 Gold
- 5 Defense Against the Dark Arts Books
- 30 Spell Energy
- 1 Brilliant Hermione’s Time-Turner Registry Image
Prisoner of the Vow BONUS Assignment!
To earn 12,500 Wizarding XP quickly, once again, drink a Brain Elixir. Use your Trace Charm on every orangish-red and red beam (Severe and Emergency Traces). If you can visit an Inn safely, stack Dark Detectors to attract a greater amount of high-threat Traces. Wait until you’re on the Bonus Assignment to open 20 Gifts, prioritizing any Extravagant Gifts and others with high Wizarding XP. Honestly, I can get the 12,500 Wizarding XP with a Brain Elixir and just a handful of Extravagant Gifts.
If you don’t want to “waste” Potions just to complete this task, use an Edible Dark Mark. Then you’ll naturally use Potions on the Adversaries. Otherwise, just play normally, and use Potions as you might on a day-to-day basis. If you need to use a few extra Potions at the very end, challenge yourself as a solo player in a Wizarding Challenge.
Finally, use Tonic for Trace Detection to find Buckbeak and Brilliant Prisoner of the Vow Foundables. You might need a few Tonics to find 55 relevant Foundables! Alternatively, if you have used an EDM to use up Potions, and are therefore unable to drink a Tonic for Trace Detection, a Trace Charm placed on any Event Foundable would be a smart way to reveal more of them without needing to venture out.
|Save Buckbeak 10 Times||1 Potent Exstimulo Potion|
|Return 45 Brilliant Prisoner of the Vow Foundables||1 Silver Key|
|Earn 12,500 Wizarding XP from Any Source||1 Spell Book|
|Defeat 15 Formidable Foes in Wizarding Challenges||10 Spell Energy|
|Use Any 12 Potions||2 Wit-Sharpening Potions|
Bonus Assignment Rewards
- 2000 Wizarding XP
- 100 Brilliant Family XP
- 5 Defense Against the Dark Arts Books
- 1 Brilliant Achievement Badge
- 20 Spell Energy
- 5 Brilliant Peter Pettigrew’s Discarded Clothes Registry Images
Brilliant Foundables and Where to Find Them
Just like previous Brilliant Events, you will only be able to encounter some of these Brilliant Foundables in the wild. The others are available as rewards for doing Wizarding Challenges with Brilliant Runestones and unlocking Brilliant Portkeys.
If you complete the Bonus Assignment, you do NOT need to unlock any Brilliant Portkeys.
|Brilliant||Where to Find it||Fragments to Collect|
|Brilliant Werewolf||Wild Encounter||20|
|Brilliant Whomping Willlow||Wild Encounter||20|
|Brilliant Azkaban Escapee Sirius Black||Wizarding Challenges (use an event Runestone)||3|
|Brilliant Peter Pettigrew’s Discarded Clothes||Brilliant Portkey Portmanteau||5|
|Brilliant Hermione’s Time-Turner||Brilliant Event Quest Reward||1|
Tips to Complete the Brilliant Event
If this is your first Brilliant Event, these tips will help you complete the Brilliant Event before the time runs out. With careful planning, you can complete the Bonus Assignment as well!
- If you are below level 20 in Wizards Unite, you might want to use Exstimulo Potions on the Brilliant Foundables. Otherwise they will use a lot of Spell Energy to return, because they resist.
- As a reminder, Part 1 Portkeys will give you Part 1 Rewards anytime you open them, even if you wait to open them during Part 2. Brilliant Portkeys will glow purple on the Map. Be sure to pick up 5 Brilliant Portkeys during the Brilliant Event, even if you don’t open them all during the event.
- If you are nervous about finding time to walk the Brilliant Portkeys, or are living under a lockdown, you can also earn the necessary Foundable Fragments by completing the Bonus Assignment.
- To find the Brilliant Azkaban Escapee Sirius Black, you must do Wizarding Challenges with the specific Brilliant Event Runestones. It’s easiest to do this during Quest 4 since it’s a task. To minimize your usage of Spell Energy, stick with Ruins IV-V Chambers. It might take a few extra Wizarding Challenges to get the 3 Fragments you need, but you’ll be able to do so quickly, without expending too many resources. If you’re low on Runestones, try Tower I-II Chambers to improve your odds of earning the required Fragments.
- If you decide to visit Inns, Fortresses, or Greenhouses during this event, continue to practice social distancing. Check out our previous article on staying safe while playing Wizards Unite.
- Save your Scrolls and your Restricted Section Books until the end of the event. Then use our guide to spend them wisely! That said, most Aurors and Magizoologists have already earned all the necessary Restricted Section Books, and many Professors have also done so. At this point, you can invest your resources in Advanced Adversarial Combat, you can start working on a second/third profession, or you can invest in SOS Training. That is a personal decision, so good luck!
Brilliant Event Bundles
There are 4 bundles total that will be available during this event. Be sure to snag the Free Bundle as soon as the event starts! The Bonus Bundle will not be available until the Bonus Assignment is unlocked, so keep that in mind.
First up, the SOS Bundle! This bundle keeps appearing in Brilliant Events: 5 Silver Keys and 100 Spell Energy for 450 Gold. I’m going to use the same math because it hasn’t changed either.
You can buy 10 Silver Keys for 720 Gold, making the individual value of each Silver Key 72 Gold. 5 Silver Keys is thus worth 360 Gold. If you only need Silver Keys, the SOS Bundle is not a good value.
100 Spell Energy costs 200 Gold, bringing the bundle value up to 560 Gold, a savings of 110 Gold. This bundle is only valuable if you need discounted Spell Energy.
Next up, the Brilliant Bundle! For 800 Gold, you get:
- 4 Baruffio’s Brain Elixirs
- 7 Strong Exstimulo Potions
- 4 Tonics for Trace Detection
- 30 Spell Energy
A single Baruffio’s Brain Elixir costs 100 Gold in Diagon Alley. However, if you just need to buy the rare Ingredients, it’s a better deal to spend 20 Gold for 1 Dragon Claw and 12 Gold for 2 Toadstools, use Master Notes in the Cauldron, and then collect the Potion immediately for 62 Gold. So let’s put the value of Brain Elixirs at 94 Gold.
Thus 4 Brain Elixirs are worth 376 Gold.
A single Tonic for Trace Detection in Diagon Alley costs 60 Gold. However, you can also buy 4 for 220 Gold, so the individual value is 55 Gold.
Thus 4 Tonics are worth 220 Gold.
Because the Ingredients needed to brew regular or Strong Exstimulo Potions are fairly common, it is typically not a good value to purchase them in Diagon Alley. For those who want to know the math, it’s 3 Gold each per Snowdrop, Bitterroot, and Re’em Blood, plus 12 Gold for Abraxan Hair, so 36 Gold per Strong Exstimulo Potion.
Thus 7 Strong Potions are worth 252 Gold.
Finally, the Spell Energy is worth 60 Gold.
The total value of the bundle is 908 Gold, a savings of 108 Gold. You may decide this is a smart purchase for you if you are low on Ingredients for the Potions or they are particularly rare where you live.
Finally, the Bonus Assignment Bundle! For 2100 Gold, you get:
- 10 Tonic for Trace Detection
- 10 Potent Exstimulo Potions
- 10 Silver Keys
- 150 Spell Energy
A single Potent Exstimulo Potion in Diagon Alley costs 75 Gold. However, if you have all of the common Ingredients, it’s a better deal to buy 1 Unicorn Hair for 30 Gold, use Master Notes in the Cauldron, and then collect the Potion immediately for 41 Gold. So let’s put the value of Potent Exstimulo Potions at 71 Gold.
Thus 10 Potent Potions cost 710 Gold.
The value of 10 Tonics is 550 Gold.
The value of 10 Silver Keys is 720 Gold.
For many players, this bundle is worth only 1980 Gold, not a good value. However, it’s a great value if you need discounted Spell Energy!
Final Brilliant Event Notes
Reminder! This Brilliant Event will run Monday to Monday.
Everyone stay safe! We’re still in a pandemic, and we realize that many players are living in lockdowns or have had mask mandates reinstated in their area. Follow all local guidances. If you’re at an Inn, Greenhouse, or Fortress with other players, keep a sensible distance from each other.
Along with completing the Brilliant Event tasks, having two, relatively rare, regular Foundables boosted may help you prestige the Hagrid’s Hut or Knockturn Alley Registry Pages. Or, if nothing else, you’ll be able to collect lots of Care of Magical Creatures and Dark Arts Runestones.
What do you think of the tasks and rewards? Are there other characters or scenes from the Prisoner of Azkaban that you wish they’d featured in it? Do you have suggestions of new tasks you would like to see in future Brilliant Events? Are you interested in the storyline? Let us know!
