A new month means a brand-new schedule of events in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite! To kick off the spooktacular month of October, players first get to enjoy a Wizarding Weekend centered on the Dark Arts.
Boosted Foundables include everything from the Fallen Ministry Atrium page, giving players the opportunity to prestige that page multiple times.
October Wizarding Weekend Event Overview

How to Prepare for October Wizarding Weekend
This Wizarding Weekend features ALL of the Foundables (wild Encounters on the Map) from the Dark Arts Registry Page Fallen Ministry Atrium. If you want to prestige this page, you need to collect the Fortress-exclusive Foundables.
Earn Magic is Might Statue and Tom Riddle Sr.’s Gravestone by doing Wizarding Challenges with a Dark Arts Runestone. With RIC (Repeat Image Collection), you don’t have to worry about “wasting” Fortress-exclusive Foundables as you hunt down these Dark Arts Fragments.
Speaking of RIC, use it strategically so you can quickly earn 2000 Dark Arts Family XP when the event begins. Over the next few days, return every Dark Arts Foundable you find! This will help you earn more Dark Arts XP now, which will help you earn more Dark Arts Runestones. Once an Image is ready to be placed, STOP. Wait until Wizarding Weekend begins before you place the Dark Arts Image in your Registry.
Finally, you’ll want to stockpile a few Potions before Wizarding Weekend begins. Focus on the following:
- Strong Exstimulo Potion
- Baruffio’s Brain Elixir
- Tonic for Trace Detection
- Dawdle Draught
You’ll want several of each of these to maximize the event!
How to Enjoy October Wizarding Weekend
The most arduous task will be earning 2000 Dark Arts Family XP. If you follow my advice above, and my breakdown below, it won’t be so difficult! You should also be able to place Dark Arts Images in your Registry throughout the event, which will again help you earn Dark Arts Family XP. I have more detailed advice, plus a mathematical breakdown, in the next section.
Wizarding Weekend is also the best opportunity to grind Wizarding XP–and maybe even level up! I did a whole video with tips on grinding XP quickly, even if you’re stuck at home without any Traces on the Map. Even with the Trace Charm nerfed, this is still the best strategy for grinding Wizarding XP.
To maximize your Brain Elixir benefits, consider unlocking a few helpful nodes in your SOS Training.
These SOS Training Lessons improve Brain Elixir potency, meaning you earn even more Wizarding XP.
- Start a Movement
- Sous Vide
- Clear Your Mind
These SOS Training Lessons lengthen the Potion duration. Each of these adds 5 additional minutes.
- A Wing and a Flare
- Temp Work
- Bottoms Up
Even if you don’t need some of the boosted Traces, return those Foundables anyway! This is a great opportunity to build a stockpile of Runestones from bonus drops. Plus you can earn a great deal of Field Guides from each Percival Graves and Tom Riddle. Finally, you can earn Ministry Manuals when you place an Image in your Registry.
Wizarding Weekend Store Packs
As always, this Wizards Unite event includes a free store pack and a few premium store bundles. You can see an overview of the premium store packs in the graphic provided by Orange Wizard.
I’m not even going to do the math for the SOS Bundle. Most players can find the necessary Ingredients.
- 5 Exstimulo Potions
- 3 Tonics for Trace Detection
- 125 Spell Energy
The Ministry Supplies Bundle is identical to the previous Wizarding Weekend, so I’m going to copy and paste my logic.
A single Potent Exstimulo Potion in Diagon Alley costs 75 Gold. However, if you have all of the common Ingredients, it’s a better deal to buy 1 Unicorn Hair for 30 Gold, use Master Notes in the Cauldron, and then collect the Potion immediately for 41 Gold. So let’s put the value of Potent Exstimulo Potions at 71 Gold.
Thus it costs 426 Gold to brew 6 Potent Exstimulo Potions.
A single Baruffio’s Brain Elixir costs 100 Gold in Diagon Alley. However, if you just need to buy the rare Ingredients, it’s a better deal to spend 20 Gold for 1 Dragon Claw and 12 Gold for 2 Toadstools, use Master Notes in the Cauldron, and then collect the Potion immediately for 62 Gold. So let’s put the value of Brain Elixirs at 94 Gold.
Thus it costs 188 Gold to brew 2 Brain Elixirs.
Tonic for Trace Detection costs 60 Gold, which is actually a good deal considering the price of 2 Erumpent Horns. BUT these Ingredients have been plentiful lately, so most players don’t need more Tonic for Trace Detection. This value can be 180 Gold.
Using the cost breakdown from Andolov, we can assume that 5 Level 5 Runestones are worth 60 Gold.
125 Spell Energy is worth 250 Gold.
Without including the value of the Spell Energy and the Trace Tonics, the bundle is worth 674 Gold, just shy of the 700 Gold price tag. However, if you need the Trace Tonics, the value is 854 Gold. Then the discounted Spell Energy is a very nice bonus!
I would purchase this bundle only if you don’t have good access to Spell Energy OR if you need cheap Trace Tonics. Otherwise, it’s not a good deal.
How to Earn 2000 Dark Arts Family XP
This is a challenging task, but I believe that most players should be able to complete it, if you’re willing to do the necessary prep work.
First of all, I have an in-depth video on grinding Family XP. This goes over all the SOS Training nodes to unlock, it explains how the Trace Charm works, and it gives detailed strategies for earning Family XP quickly.
To understand how to earn Dark Arts Family XP, you first need to understand RIC and Family XP bonuses. This chart from Orange Wizard shows how much Dark Arts Family XP you can place for each Foundable in Fallen Ministry Atrium. While 2 other Foundables will also be boosted, this page is the opportunity to prestige. Thus, players should focus on this page to earn Dark Arts Family XP.
By returning 25 Portrait of Voldemort Foundables, you earn a total of 175 Dark Arts Family XP for returning the Foundables, AND you earn at least 50 Dark Arts Family XP by placing the Image in your Registry.
By returning 20 Percival Graves Foundables, you earn a total of 200 Dark Arts Family XP for returning the Foundables, AND you earn at least 200 Dark Arts Family XP by placing the Image in your Registry.
By returning 15 Tom Riddle Foundables, you earn a total of 300 Dark Arts Family XP for returning the Foundables, AND you earn at least 500 Dark Arts Family XP by placing the Image in your Registry.
That’s 1425 Dark Arts Family XP just for completing tasks.
Those numbers are assuming you start the event with the base frame and no Fragments for any of those Foundables. Those numbers will be even higher if you already have some Fragments, and if you’re at a higher frame. Even with the base frame, you can earn more Dark Arts Family XP by completing the set tasks.
This week, do Wizarding Challenges with Dark Arts Runestones so you can start to collect the necessary Tom Riddle Sr.’s Gravestone and Magic is Might Statue Fragments.
Below are the steps you need to take to earn 2000 Dark Arts Family XP. This assumes you start with the base frame for all Dark Arts pages.
Edit 10/05/2020: I found out after I already left for vacation that only Knockturn Alley Sign would be available during Wizarding Challenges. This negates most of the plan I wrote out below.
Please feel free to check my math. I will update as needed.
|Return 45 Magick Moste Evile Foundables and place the Image 3 times in your Registry||Earn 45 Dark Arts Family XP plus 3 FXP per Foundable (135)|
|Return 27 Thestral Foundables and place the Image 3 times in your Registry||Earn 75 Dark Arts Family XP plus 7 FXP per Foundable (189)|
|Return 18 Portrait of Voldemort Foundables and place the Image 2 times in your Registry||Earn 50 Dark Arts Family XP plus 7 FXP per Foundable (126)|
|Return 10 Percival Graves Foundables and place the Image 2 times in your Registry||Earn 100 Dark Arts Family XP plus 10 FXP per Foundable (100)|
|Return 6 Tom Riddle Foundables and place the Image 2 times in your Registry||Earn 200 Dark Arts Family XP plus 20 FXP per Foundable (120)|
|Earn 7 Tom Riddle Sr.’s Gravestone Fragments in Wizarding Challenges and the place the Image once in your Registry||Earn 80 Dark Arts Family XP plus 10 FXP per Wizarding Challenge (70)|
|Earn 7 Magic is Might Statue Fragments in Wizarding Challenges and the place the Image once in your Registry||Earn 80 Dark Arts Family XP plus 10 Family XP per Wizarding Challenge (70)|
|PRESTIGE PAGE TO BRONZE||N/A|
|Return 15 Portrait of Voldemort Foundables and place the Image once in your Registry||Earn 75 Dark Arts Family XP plus 7 FXP per Foundable (105)|
|Return 10 Percival Graves Foundables and place the Image once in your Registry||Earn 120 Dark Arts Family XP plus 10 FXP per Foundable (100)|
|Return 10 Tom Riddle Foundables and place the Image 2 times in your Registry||Earn 400 Dark Arts Family XP plus 20 FXP per Foundable (200)|
|Total||2440 Dark Arts Family XP|
Based on this strategy, you will earn more than 2000 Dark Arts Family XP, even assuming you start all pages with no Dark Arts Foundables, all on the base frames.
Most players are further along, and thus they will be able to earn Dark Arts Family XP more quickly. The above strategy has cushion built into it, which will help for anyone wanting to earn the Challenge Fragments before the event starts, in order to prestige your Registry page more quickly.
Only the Knockturn Alley Sign will be guaranteed in Wizarding Challenges at Forest IV or above. Unfortunately, we found out that even if you do Wizarding Challenges in lower Chambers, you will also only earn the Knockturn Alley Sign. This makes it more difficult to prestige Fallen Ministry Atrium.
How to Find More Foundables
This strategy is based on finding a large number of Foundables. The best way to do this is to use Tonic for Trace Detection and the Trace Charm. Before Wizarding Weekend starts, take the time to unlock SOS Training nodes that will improve your Tonic for Trace Detection and your Trace Charm.
Get more Traces from your Tonic for Trace Detection:
- Stir Crazy
- Concentrated Concoction
- Trained For This
Earn more Family XP for each Foundable returned by improving Trace Charm Proficiency:
- Lost and Foundables
- Foretelling Foundables
- Repository Knowledge
- Deep Dive
- Dangerous Attraction
- Piece of the Puzzle
- Fragmented Memory
- Gethsemane’s Pickle
Get more Traces from your Trace Charm by improving Trace Charm Efficacy:
- Pario Vestigius
- Art of Happiness
- Czech Mate
- A Little Love
- Ottery St. Catchpole
- Mind Freak
- Serendipitous Study
Only use your Trace Charm on Percival Graves or Tom Riddle to get the most benefits from it.
Wizarding Weekend Conclusion
I know the Wizarding Weekend event tasks are daunting. However, I laid out everything for you to devise your own perfect strategy! If you have the time, I highly recommend you watch my video on grinding Family XP since it goes into detail of everything that helps you earn Family XP quickly.
Take the time to go through your SOS Training and upgrade your skills.
Use Exstimulo Potions to return Foundables more quickly. Save your Dawdle Draughts for Percival Graves and Tom Riddle.
