Visit King’s Cross Station for January Community Day!

New month, new year, new Community Day for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

The January 2021 Community Day is centered around the King’s Cross Station page in the Wonders of the Wizarding World Registry. This is very similar to recent Wizards Unite Community Days with boosted Foundables from a single Registry page.

Once again, this will be an all-day event that can be played from home. Stay safe, witches and wizards!

January 2021 Community Day Tasks

Like all recent Community Day events, this event includes a special set of tasks and rewards. These tasks should be incredibly doable, especially considering you have a FULL day to get them all done.

HOWEVER, if you need a break from Wizards Unite, this is a good event to skip. Long-term players have most likely already prestiged King’s Cross Station to Gold, so it’s not a big deal if you don’t get those boosted Foundables.

Use 7 Exstimulo Potions (any) 1 Silver Key
Earn 975 Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP 2 Baruffio’s Brain Elixirs

Return 20 Foe Glass Foundables 2 Strong Exstimulo Potions

Preparing for Wizards Unite Community Day

January’s Community Day is extremely similar to recent Wizards Unite Community Days, just focused on a different Foundable Family. Players have incentives to return Foundables AND to complete Wizarding Challenges AND to unlock Portkeys! Here are a few tips to prepare over the next few days.

Portkeys

Do your best to open Portkeys before Community Day starts so you have room to pick up 1km Portkeys. These will contain Platform 9 3/4 Sign Fragments, so you want to collect as many as you can!

If you can safely and legally walk around a park or your neighborhood, that’s a great option to unlock Portkeys.

Potions

Stock up on Ingredients for Tonic for Trace Detection! With the reduced brewing time, this is an opportunity to rebuild your Potions supplies.

These are all the Ingredients you need for Tonic for Trace Detection.

Baneberry Bulbadox Juice Angel’s Trumpet Erumpent Horn

While these Ingredients are still boosted under the “play at home” changes, I’m aware that many players don’t have any Ingredients at home.

If you can safely stop somewhere with a lot of Wizards Unite activity, do so on the way to the grocery store on your next trip.

You can also ask your friends to send you Ingredient Gifts and Tonic for Trace Detection Gifts.

To maximize your Tonic benefits, consider unlocking a few helpful nodes in your SOS Training. Each of these will allow your Tonic to reveal additional Traces.

  • Stir Crazy (I, 7)
  • Concentrated Concoction (II, 25)
  • Trained For This (III, 38)

Finally, try to stock up on Exstimulo Potions. I realize this will be a challenge, since most of us will use up our stock during the Adversaries Event.

This quick chart shows which Ingredients you need for the entire Exstimulo family.

Shared between all Exstimulo Potions Bitter Root
Re’em blood
Snowdrop
Additional Exstimulo Potion ingredient Granian Hair
Additional Strong Exstimulo Potion ingredient Abraxan Hair
Additional Potent Exstimulo Potion ingredient Unicorn Hair

Wizarding Challenges

If you still need Hogwarts Express and Platform 9 3/4 Sign Fragments, do Wizarding Challenges with a Wonders of the Wizarding World Runestone. While you will have the ability to earn these on Community Day, it will be easier to prestige King’s Cross Station if you don’t need to collect many of the two Challenge Fragments.

Repeat Image Collection

Return any Wonders of the Wizarding World Foundables you see on the Map. If any of these Images are ready to place in your Registry, STOP. Wait until the event begins. Then you can place the Image and earn extra Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP.

Tips for Enjoying January’s Community Day

This is another Wizards Unite Community Day that will be completely playable at home, but that doesn’t mean you can’t play with other people! Several WUtubers will do livestreams during the day.

You can also consider meeting up with a local community in an outdoor location. Everyone should wear masks, carry hand sanitizer, and avoid shaking hands or hugging. Check out our previous guide on playing Wizards Unite safely. If you can do this, I highly recommend coordinating Wizarding Challenges at a local Fortress, especially with the Knight Bus issues noted below.

A Note on the Knight Bus

If you’re taking the Knight Bus to do Wizarding Challenges, then keep in mind that the player who starts the Chamber determines whether or not the players can earn Community Day bonuses. This was true during previous Community Day events, but I know it’s a bit confusing.

Wizards Unite Community Day is based on local times. However, when taking the Knight Bus, you can randomly play with witches and wizards around the world. This means that if Community Day is NOT active in your timezone, but you enter a Chamber started by a player where Community Day is active, then you have the increased odds of earning a guaranteed Fragment in Forest IV and above. (You can also enjoy the other Community Day bonuses).

Once Community Day is active in your area, if you’re doing Wizarding Challenges in Forest IV or higher, then you should coordinate with friends to get the Community Day bonuses. Or you’ll want to start the Chamber yourself to guarantee access.

THAT SAID, recent events in local times, like Snape’s Birthday, have been extra-confusing in regards to the Knight Bus. Even with the starting player having the event active, not all players have received event rewards.

How to Earn 975 Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP

This is always a challenging task, but I believe that most players should be able to complete it, if you’re willing to do the necessary prep work.

First of all, I have long, detailed video on grinding Family XP during events. This goes over all the SOS Training nodes to unlock, it explains exactly how the Trace Charm works, and it gives detailed strategies for earning Family XP quickly.

To understand how to earn Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP, you first need to understand Repeat Image Collection and Family XP bonuses. This chart from Orange Wizard shows how much  Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP you can place for each Foundable in King’s Cross Station.

Starting on a Base or Bronze Frame

By returning 25 Giant’s Helm Foundables, you earn a total of 125 Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP for returning the Foundables, AND you earn at least 40 Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP by placing the Image in your Registry.

By returning 20 Baby Mandrake Foundables, you earn a total of 140 Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP for returning the Foundables, AND you earn at least 50 Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP by placing the Image in your Registry.

By returning 20 Foe Glass Foundables, you earn a total of 140 Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP for returning the Foundables, AND you earn at least 50 Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP by placing the Image in your Registry.

Just by doing the other event tasks, you earn at least 545 Wonders of the Wizarding World Family XP. Each time you earn a Wonders of the Wizarding Fragment in a Wizarding Challenge, you earn an additional 10 Family XP.

Starting on a Silver or Gold Frame

The benefits of starting on a Silver or Gold Frame is more Family XP for placing Images. The downside is that you will need to return more Foundables to place an Image, even more than required to complete event tasks.

Repeat Image Collection

With RIC, you need to be strategic if you want to prestige the King’s Cross Station page multiple times. If you have already placed a Foundable in your Registry, as indicated by the green and white star, do NOT place it again! I know it’s hard to resist that enticing shimmer, but wait. After you have enough Fragments for all of the King’s Cross Foundables, you can prestige the page. Those extra Fragments on any Foundable marked by the green and white star will roll over to the next frame, making it easier to prestige the page again.

That said, if you still need many more Fragments to place the other images on the page, you might want to go ahead and place the image to earn the Family XP. For example, I’m already on a Silver frame, but I need so many Platform 9 3/4 Signs that I doubt I’ll be able to prestige to Gold on Community Day. For that reason, I will go ahead and place all of the images on my page to collect Family XP.

Community Day Bundles

In addition to the free store pack, you also have the option of buying special bundles. This graphic is courtesy of Orange Wizard.

SOS Bundle up first! This is identical to what we have seen for multiple Community Days past, so I’m using about the same logic. This bundle includes:

  • 2 Tonics for Trace Detection
  • 5 Silver Keys
  • 50 Spell Energy

A single Tonic for Trace Detection in Diagon Alley costs 60 Gold. However, you can also buy 4 for 220 Gold, so the individual value is 55 Gold. The value of 2 Tonics is thus 110 Gold. 50 Spell Energy costs 100 Gold. By breaking down the individual cost of Silver Keys in Diagon Alley, they are worth 72 Gold each, or 360 Gold for 5.

Thus, the value of the SOS Bundle is about 570 Gold if you want discounted Spell Energy, or 470 Gold if you don’t value Spell Energy. If you only need Silver Keys, the value is only about 360 Gold and not worth it.

What about the Community Day Bundle? This includes:

  • 5 Level 4 Wonders of the Wizarding World Runestones
  • 20 Spell Energy
  • 5 Exstimulo Potions
  • 5 Potent Exstimulo Potions

Using the cost breakdown from Andolov, we can assume that 5 Level 4 Runestones are worth 50 Gold.

Regular Exstimulo Potions use common Ingredients. Players shouldn’t ever spend money on these Potions.

A single Potent Exstimulo Potion in Diagon Alley costs 75 Gold. However, if you have all of the common Ingredients, it’s a better deal to buy 1 Unicorn Hair for 30 Gold, use Master Notes in the Cauldron, and then collect the Potion immediately for 41 Gold. So let’s put the value of Potent Exstimulo Potions at 71 Gold.

Thus 5 Potent Potions are worth 355 Gold.

Before the Spell Energy, this bundle is worth 385 Gold, not a good deal. Even with the Spell Energy, it’s not worth it.

Final Community Day Notes

Playing outside? Be sure to carry an extra battery pack or two, plus charging cables. Need a new battery pack? I’ve put together a list of the top-rated options on Amazon!

Be sure to have an EMPTY Potions queue before Community Day starts (or you wake up) so that you can fill it up with Tonic for Trace Detection. Stack your queue at the end of the day to take advantage of reduced brewing time after Community Day.

I hope this Wizards Unite Community Day guide has been helpful! Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to see in future guides.

Event didn’t start at midnight for me, was 8am local time. Wasn’t impressed by that. Still says it’s going to end at midnight today! But easy to finish prestiging to gold.

Overall I really enjoyed this event. It had some easy tasks and some harder, but all were doable. They seem to have fixed their issue with wit sharpening potion gifts and challenges as I had a few drop doing the challenges this day. The tips here were good, and though I have not prestiged to gold yet I have enough event portkeys to do so once I finish opening them (started at silver). I actually had a pretty good drop rate on the trains just from doing Ruins IV (my default for idle playing while watching shows, etc). I’m still… Read more »
